January 23, 201115 yr Per Cowley... cst_Cowley cst_Cowley My second hitter is going to be Gordon Beckham - Oz.
January 23, 201115 yr To start ST, why not. At this point, there's a few certainties. Pierre will lead off. Morel will start off hitting 9th unless he fails to earn the job. Dunn and Konerko will be in the 3/4 slots. Aside from that...Beckham, Ramirez, Quentin, AJ, Rios...there's not really a terrible option amongst them, but there's not an obvious stellar candidate in there either until one of them proves it. So, name one. If he comes out raking, then he keeps the spot. If he doesn't, then 2 weeks later it's different.
January 23, 201115 yr Author I guess my feeling is I think I'd be more comfortable with Lexi in that spot given Gordo's struggles for the most part of last year.
January 23, 201115 yr QUOTE (Wanne @ Jan 22, 2011 -> 09:13 PM) I guess my feeling is I think I'd be more comfortable with Lexi in that spot given Gordo's struggles for the most part of last year. Both of them came out in big slumps last year in April. If they do that again, neither one of them belongs there, and Rios or AJ does. If one of them doesn't, then that player belongs there. The only reason you say it right now is that you are trying to pump Becksy up for this year and get his mental state in the right place to start the year.
January 23, 201115 yr we don't have a single hitter that stands out as a certainty to be successful in the 2-hole, why not put Gordon there. He couldn't possibly have a worse april and may than Alexei
January 23, 201115 yr I think our lineup is much more dangerous if Beck can be successful batting second and Alexi could be batting seventh or eight.....wow.......
January 23, 201115 yr On paper it sounds great. He's got some experience now. He should be a great No. 2 hitter. Reality though ... if Gordon sucks early, bye bye No. 2 hole, Gordon.
January 23, 201115 yr QUOTE (Springfield SoxFan @ Jan 22, 2011 -> 11:04 PM) I think our lineup is much more dangerous if Beck can be successful batting second and Alexi could be batting seventh or eight.....wow....... Love it, as long as Beckham is producing like he can/should. Remember he started last year batting 2nd and lost his job, but if he does what he does he is great 2 hitter for us. Decent power, can hit the other way, good speed.
January 23, 201115 yr Finally, Ozzie says something that makes a good deal of sense regarding the lineup.
January 23, 201115 yr Finally, Ozzie says something that makes a good deal of sense regarding the lineup. This. If Becks can start the year right and focus (A good ST would be a good way to start) then we should hopefully see him start to concentrate a little better to start the year.
January 23, 201115 yr Again, Ozzie did say yesterday that Beckham is his number two hitter but don't be surprised to see Alexei and Omar in there too. I think that makes everyone happy. Oz says becks will hit second Sometimes Ramirez and vizquel, but wants Ramirez in an RBI spot per Mark Gonzales
January 23, 201115 yr QUOTE (joesaiditstrue @ Jan 22, 2011 -> 08:23 PM) we don't have a single hitter that stands out as a certainty to be successful in the 2-hole, why not put Gordon there. He couldn't possibly have a worse april and may than Alexei Yup, no one is the perfect no. 2 hitter so I guess Beckham is about the best candidate.
January 23, 201115 yr I like it. Makes sense, obviously. And it immediately shows the franchise is giving Gordon the benefit of the doubt after the debacle that was '10. I hope he takes advantage. We really need him to become a stud.
January 23, 201115 yr From things worth nothing Ozzie also said the last 8 or 9 ST games, will be played with opening day lineup, to avoid a slow start. He went on to call last year's slow starta a managerial mistake.
January 23, 201115 yr QUOTE (SEALgep @ Jan 23, 2011 -> 09:21 AM) Sophomore slump last year, Gordo is going to come up big this year. Agreed, get the buzz back Gordon.
January 23, 201115 yr QUOTE (Wanne @ Jan 23, 2011 -> 02:13 AM) I guess my feeling is I think I'd be more comfortable with Lexi in that spot given Gordo's struggles for the most part of last year. Am I wrong to say that Ozzie had mentioned both Lexi and Gordo as hitters he wanted further down in the line up for more RBI opportunities? I just think it will be interesting to see who does get that #2 nod. #1 and #2 shouldhave some speed though
