June 7, 201114 yr QUOTE (DirtySox @ Jun 7, 2011 -> 01:54 PM) Sox haven't taken a prep player yet have they? No. Just wondering, but when was the last HS player we took who panned out for us? Because I think the last time we took a HS kid in the 1st RD was like Kris Honel in 2002.

June 7, 201114 yr LHP Blair Walters, Hawaii is 11th RD pick. Walters #'s in 2010 - http://thebaseballcube.com/profile.asp?P=blair-walters Good peripherals outside of H/9.
June 7, 201114 yr QUOTE (JoeCoolMan24 @ Jun 7, 2011 -> 03:57 PM) No. Just wondering, but when was the last HS player we took who panned out for us? Because I think the last time we took a HS kid in the 1st RD was like Kris Honel in 2002. How do you define "Panned out"? We've had some and traded them. Ryan Sweeney comes to mind there.
June 7, 201114 yr QUOTE (maggsmaggs @ Jun 7, 2011 -> 10:22 AM) Cubs just took an offensive guard with their second-round pick: Looks like John Kruk's Mini-me.
June 7, 201114 yr QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jun 7, 2011 -> 02:03 PM) How do you define "Panned out"? We've had some and traded them. Ryan Sweeney comes to mind there. That's what I meant, like HS players who ended up with a pro career, like Sweeney.
June 7, 201114 yr White Sox 13th rounder: Chadd Krist, C, Cal. 5-11, 199. That's the 3rd Bear taken by the Sox. Cal still in NCAA tourney
June 7, 201114 yr QUOTE (JoeCoolMan24 @ Jun 7, 2011 -> 03:08 PM) That's what I meant, like HS players who ended up with a pro career, like Sweeney. Don't forget Gio. Krist sounds like a good defender. The Sox continue to load up on catchers. That's one position the Sox have always have a number of prospects at.
June 7, 201114 yr QUOTE (JoeCoolMan24 @ Jun 7, 2011 -> 03:32 PM) White Sox 14th rounder: Mark Ginther, 3B, Oklahoma State. 6-3, 200 pound junior. Robin Ventura or Josh Fields?
June 7, 201114 yr QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Jun 7, 2011 -> 03:37 PM) Robin Ventura or Josh Fields? Sounds like Josh Fields. Big power hitter that played football (though only in high school). Good athlete, strong arm. BA likes his defense, but not his approach. I don't trust us to fix a player's offensive approach.
June 7, 201114 yr Snodgress? I can't even picture Hawk saying this. I think baseball is the only sport where a solid name has some importance. Sorry Snodgress, ya never had a chance.
June 7, 201114 yr QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Jun 7, 2011 -> 04:20 PM) Well, I'll see Soptic one way or the other next year. Ha I'm trying to decide which team I want him on more. If he can shore up Mizzou's bullpen and Stites comes back (he just got picked in the 17th round) I love Mizzou's pitching staff, but Soptic sounds like a really good pro arm.

Well, I'm already gonna see a guy from my high school conference pitch at Mizzou and I'd rather see Soptic sign with the Sox because I'd get more than 2 years to root for him and Sox > Tigers for me.
June 7, 201114 yr White Sox 19th rounder: Kevin Vance, RHP, UConn. 6-0, 205 junior. 1.57 ERA as reliever. UConn still in NCAA tourney.
June 7, 201114 yr Author QUOTE (flavum @ Jun 7, 2011 -> 04:47 PM) 20 rounds--no Guillen Maybe Ozzie snaps and says demeaning things about the organization and gets fired?
