Coop + Kazmir = ???

Featured Replies

Albeit he's not the same as 2007, when he led the AL in K's, is there any chance he can be fixed?

Angels release Scott Kazmir

Scott Kazmir's downward spiral with the Los Angeles Angels finally ended Wednesday when the team gave him his unconditional release, opting to swallow the $14.5 million they still owe him rather than return him to the active roster.

Kazmir, who had been placed on the disabled list after his first start of the season, was 9-15 with a 5.94 ERA last year. After spending more than a month at extended spring training to try to regain the form that made him one of the best young pitchers in the game a few years ago, Kazmir struggled miserably during his minor league rehab stint.

Angels general manager Tony Reagins happened to be at the most recent outing for Triple-A Salt Lake on Tuesday.

Kazmir was 0-5, allowed 30 runs in 15 1/3 innings and hit six batters in those five outings.

The Angels traded utility man Sean Rodriguez and two minor leaguers for Kazmir in August of 2009.

Kazmir, 27, led the American League in strikeouts in 2007, but he had lost all touch with his mechanics during his stay with the Angels. His velocity dipped and he lost his once-devastating slider.

The Angels replaced Kazmir in their rotation with 21-year-old right-hander Tyler Chatwood. They had until June 22 to release Kazmir or return him to the active roster.

Not unless he can make him find a lost fastball. Sorta the opposite of coops game.

Yah, I was thinking along the lines of that slider he used to have but without the heater to set it up, it's pretty useless.

we can go for the rarely seen 7 man rotation

It's Ozzie...ya never know. LOL

...And, why would he want to sign with Sox?

...And, why would he want to sign with Sox?

Because the sox ought to have that reputation now. If Cooper can't fix a pitcher, no one can.

What's that? A player with money remaining on his contract UNDERPERFORMED?! And the team legally obligated to pay him said money just released that player and eat the salary? What's that like...?

Kazmir must not have been the first in last to leave like some people....

do you really want to waste 8 million dollars to find out?

No one is talking about claiming him.

No thanks

based on the title of the thread, that seemed to be the implication

If the Sox pick him up and he pitches in the bigs, do the Sox take on the contract?

If he's free we should pick him up. AAA pitcher right now.

I wanna see Coop fix his ass.

f*** Ohman.

Kazmir's FB tops out at like 87. This is worse than '06 Freddy Garcia who lost 4-5 MPH off his FB in one offseason. You don't want this. Cooper ain't that good.

I'd have to think the Yankees will take him.

He's only 27. We need pitching depth in our organization since we have nobody in the minors who can pitch.

If he's free, pick him up.

Agreed, if he's free, why not? Dude could at least be a AAA pitcher for us.

Kazmir will get grabbed by somebody I'd think before he gets officially released, he used to be good... Yankees will most likely grab him IMO

If I'm Kazmir's agent, I'm looking for an NL club with a rotation/bullpen opening.

I don't see us signing him, even if we wanted to (which I hope we don't....dude's toast)

There is no way anybody is claiming Kazmir. If he hasn't been the worst starter in the majors over the past year and a half, he's been pretty damn close. Someone will take a flyer on him hoping to catch lightning in a bottle and have him magically regain lost velocity, but that's not a multi-million dollar gamble. Erik Bedard signed for $1.5 mill last year and $1 mill this year and he's shown that he is actually effective when he is healthy. Kazmir is clearly not.

I see him ending up in Chicago, but not wearing black.

Most of Coop's fixes are short term. Yet he is treated like a legend.
