Frontrunning dog. He's great when he's surrounded by other good hitters -- a very dangerous performer, particularly in the clutch. But rely on him and watch him fade. And Flash Tizzle is right; he won't lay out for balls at 3rd because of his shoulder. Oh, and he's a loafer out of the batter's box and on the bases. So, yeah, I'm not on board.

Winning the division gives you a chance and with the Sox pitching anything can happen in the playoffs. If the offense suddenly starts making up for lost time, they would be a very scary team to have to play.

Well, all of this Quentin talk makes it seem like at least some form of "subtracting" is imminent. And so if that does happen, where does the "add" part of the equation come in, at least the part that assists us in the 2011 campaign. The names mentioned in each of the Quentin trade rumors seem to be earmarked as contributors to 2012 and beyond. A-Ram, for better or for worse, at least has been the only name really bandied about as a possible significant addition for this year's race (and even that, his name hasn't garnered any real speculation by the media). I wonder who the possible additions might or could be.

The team they were behind 14 years ago was a far better team than the teams they are behind now. Trading your best players now and loading up on Matt LaPorta's and Jeff Marquezes would be a disaster.

KW is flipping this roster trying to make it more flexible financially in the coming years. It's not hard to understand. If he trades anyone from our core roster, it will be at a position where we have a replacement (ie: Viciedo for Quentin, Ohman/Sale for Thornton). It's why you don't see him trying to trade AJP or Alexei right now.

So there will never be any reason to try to get better and actually win at the deadline because in 2009 and 2010 the Sox collapsed.

It appears so. Makes me think about the scenario from four years ago, back in '07, when KW was trying to build up a market for both Buehrle and Dye. For whatever reason, it just never manifested itself. That was back when Dye was still a upper echelon offensive force, and Mark was four years younger than he is today. But Kenny couldn't extract the kind of prospect package he was looking for, or anything remotely resembling the kinds we've been talking about here the past couple of days, so he withdrew from the marketplace. Luckily at the moment, things seem to be a little different. Let's hope we're able to capitalize!

Their rotation was bad (gave up 815 runs) and was anchored by injury-prone dinosaurs like Orel Herscheiser and Charlie Nagy. They caught lightning in a bottle with Jaret Wright and Chad Ogea in the playoffs and came within one inning of winning the WS. Just goes to show that you don't need a bulletproof team to win in the playoffs.

If Kenny had 6 starters, 1 of which was walking at the end of the year, and the option to dump a bad contract and get a reliever to help this year and a former high round SP too I think he'd do it.

Wow, I didn't realize that. I just kept hearing about how good that team was, but they only won 86 games in the regular season. I guess they were just cocky from winning 99 & 100 the previous two years.
