2012 Cubs thread

CHICAGO—Over the past several weeks, longtime Cubs organist Gary Pressy has gradually stopped playing the light ballpark-organ riffs that typically fill Wrigley Field's stands in favor of more broody, chilling songs. "I have to say that lately the sounds coming out of that organ have made me anxious and sad and in no mood to clap along," said season-ticket holder Mike Preston, adding that instead of playing "Hava Nagila" or using his organ to start a "Let's Go Cubs" chant, Pressy will strike an oppressive minor chord and sustain the unsettling tone for up to an entire minute. "Yesterday he played a really slow fugue on 'Take Me Out to the Ball Game' in this dark, funereal key. It was haunting." When asked for comment, Pressy drove reporters away by playing a demented arrangement of "Happy Birthday" on his newly installed 20,000-pipe, seven-story-tall organ.

Fixed.

Good one.

Well, there's hope that the holes in the swing just haven't been found yet, and he'll turn to crap. :lolhitting

Lefties, especially, tend to look really good the first time through. Time will tell, but yeah, the stroke looks good.

I don't truly HATE to the Cubs, BTW, I mostly disregard them - it's just that I know the Chi-town media will gravitate to any feel-good Cub story, even in a season of crap, and relatively ignore what is going to be a special season on the South Side.

Such are the joys of following the beloved from another location. I no longer have to be immersed in the Embracing-of-Suck Cubbie fandom that permeates Chicago media, which, admittedly, largely drove this northsider to see the light at 35th and Shields.

This is so pure.

Garza is 4-7 for a losing team, but that's not too bad, but his 4.2+ ERA in the NL is alarming.

Garza has reverted back to the mediocre pitcher he was before last season. He's striking guys out and keeping the walks relatively low, but he's giving up a ton of home runs.

I wouldn't want him.

Why can't there ever be a hot stalker?

They're called groupies?

Carlos Lee still loves Wrigley

No doubt. Also has to be a great relief for him to get out of such a down org.

Marlins deserve credit for making such an upgrade for little cost. Second only to the Youk acq. among those that have happened so far.

Cubs had a shutout going vs the Cardinals, until they gave 12 (twelve) runs in the 7th...

Good to see Santo finally get in.

Meh. I think its fitting the day he gets in as a player, Tim McCarver gets in as an announcer. They should have made it a threesome and enshrined Marge Schott as an owner.

Did they borrow the Sox pen?

I think they got outscored like 29-1 in a three game sweep.

Dempster to the Braves per multiple Twitter sources

Rumor has it that Randall Delgado is included in the deal. If so, big win for the Cubs. Dempster isn't a part of your future anyway.

Delgado is more highly regarded than anyone Sox could have given up besides Sale. Good get for the Cubs.

WOW

#theo@work

Yeah, that's a really nice move for the Cubs. Dempster was useless to them, and they could quite easily get him back in a few months. Delgado's stock has fallen a little, but he is still a sexy arm.
