The Carlos Quentin Appreciation Thread

Featured Replies

The Carlos Quentin. You were a beast in 2008. You definitely don't mind taking a hit by pitch for the team. You always give 100% and have a Konerkosque intensity and self-analysis. Maybe even more intense and self-aware.

Wish you well in your return to California.

I knew this was coming, but it saddens me anyway. Thanks for 2008, TCQ. You were the man.

I guess my signature finally came true. Rather bitter-sweetly. :violin

Thanks Carlos!! Good luck in San Diego...tear up the f***ing National League!!!

Q:

"We did underachieve, and I think everyone in that clubhouse would admit that," said Quentin during a conference call on Saturday. "Being traded is a function of what happened. I care a lot about the people over there, especially about my teammates. I have a lot of emotion and love in my heart for my teammates I played with for the last four years."

Love ya brotha - mash in SD. Get paid in '13.

Thanks for all the hard work since putting on that Sox uniform! Good luck in SD, hope you mash! Going to miss the bat flip!

Q, what would have been if you had not broken your hand in 2008. The Sox beat the Rays in the first round for sure and who knows what happens from there. Good luck in San Diego!!

Classy and honest quote by Q:

“I have a lot of emotions in my heart for teammates,’’ Quentin said. “We did underachieve and most of the guys in the clubhouse will admit that.’’

Hate to see CQ leave :(, best o luck!

The Sox dump yet another player I like.

I'm glad for Carlos he gets to go to an area where he has a lot of history.

I like the guy. When he gets hot ... he rakes big-league pitching.

I think of CQ I have positive feelings.

Another of my faves gone. Amazing.

I do truly hate KW.

I agree with everything you said except for hating KW. Even if I saw him as a complete failure, I wouldn't hate him for that.

I'm going to miss carlos. He was my favorite white sox when he was hot.

Bye Q, couldn't hate you. Could get frustrated, but man, he was likable.

If I hate anything about the stupid KW-Ozzie feud, it's that we lost a lot of likable guys because of it.

Quentin is 1-19 career at PETCO Park.

Pretty sure he means that region of California, not Petco park specifically.

Quentin, besides 2008, was an under appreciated hitter. Chances are he'll come up lame with something but if he plays 130 games he's a 30 homer 100 RBI guy. Those guys aren't as plentiful as they used to be. He improved a little bit defensively last year as well. Viciedo should have been playing in 2010, they needed a spot for him. I'm just dissappointed the return for Carlos Quentin is a couple of guys who will eventually be 6 year minor league free agents.

No need to hate KW. Actually, KW went out and made a great trade to get him in the first place. Nice 4 underpaid years with the White Sox.

With the White Sox, .346 OBP

107 hrs, 320 rbi comes to about 27 hrs and 80 rbis a year (would have been more of course if it wasn't for the injuries)

Two time All Star, one time Silver Slugger, and MVP considerations in 2008.

Maybe he will be back in a White Sox uniform in the future. You never know.

7.8 WAR over 4 seasons. 1.95 WAR/Season

This is completely s***ty for the amount of money he makes.

I liked Quentin too, but this move had to be made. I know you'll never understand this stuff, but the move was in the best interest of the team. BUT since it's an appreciation thread, TCQ when you were locked in you could mash better than anyone in the game. He was just scary at the plate, and I'll remember that. Best of luck in SD.

I look at all the stats, the old ones and the new. WAR ain't everything. Before last season Adam Dunn had a higher lifetime WAR than Paul Konerko. So yes I refuse to be a slave to the newer stats. As for the topic at hand, Greg I feel your pain. TCQ was one of my favorites. Like others I could get so frustrated with him at times, but I still think he has a chance to make an impact year in year out. Just stay healthy. I wouldn't be surprised if he thrives in his hometown. Best of everything to him, and thanks for the effort.

Exactly, stats be damned.

The man could absolutely rake the ball when he got hot.

stats be DAMNED???? are you kidding me? and what exactly was he good for all the other times when he WASN'T locked in? You're telling me you're supposed to keep a player who's good only 25% of the time??

I know by now I should just ignore you, but that's up there with one of the dumber things I've read from you.

IT's the Quentin appreciation thread, so let's not bother with this in here.

haha sorry. fair enough.

I remember taking some Cub fan friends to their first ever game at the Cell. It was against the Angels, and Q walked it off against Lackey IIRC. Q was such a beast at that time.
