I hope that ND falls big time. I don't believe Te'o story for one damn minute.

Eh, that got some play for a while. But suicides are common, even if sad and pathetic on the part of ND. This story with Te'o is so unique. I'm not sure if there's ever been anything like it.

I think the sad thing is ND reportedly hired someone to investigate this situation but swept hers under the rug.

This whole situation is absurd. ND should be ashamed and Te'o is a total fraud.

2. The player may have used this for some sort of gain.

Pretty sure that's not the real handle, as per the Deadspin article. Even CNN was duped on it.

The attention that this got doesn't bother me as much as the University's response to it. They seemingly have put a LOT more effort into investigating this than a couple of the tragedies that were connected to the football program over the last few years.

ESPN sits for 10 days on an article like that because they want to get all facts checked before they air it, and then they'd want to air it in an OTL type of setting. They'd only have one person doing that, and they need sit down, televised interviews from each party involved. They need to wait to hear back from people, set appointments, get flights scheduled, etc. Deadspin just calls or emails people. There is far less to do with a written news piece than there is a televised news piece.

 

EDIT: At the very least, they want to get facts checked first. That can take some time.

If ESPN had this...the fact that someone else was on it would be motivation for them to get going and get it out there.

If they could find it, then ESPN should have been able to beat them to the punch on it by doing the same work. Once you have that person's ID, you check their background, see if there's any chance they were in on it by seeing if they've traveled to Hawai'i recently or something like that...and then you have your story.

Deadspin also has the balls to report stories like this first...they are much more aggressive and have a higher risk tolerance because they are trying to establish a certain identity as an entity. They have a lot less to lose by breaking this story than ESPN does.

Deadspin is still trying to prove its journalistic merit.

 

Makes sense which one ran with a story that still is unclear at this moment.

I'm not a fan of a media circus following players to Chicago, especially if it's not 90%+ sure the player is worth it. No player out of the draft is that certain.

 

Or maybe it's because I just have never understood the Te'O hype. He's good, he's not (Touchdown) Jesus.
