August 23, 201213 yr The reason Sale WON'T win it this year is because of innings. He is only at 150. He won't hit 200, while Verlander will cruise past 230. That, in a lot of people's mind, is MUCH more valuable.
August 23, 201213 yr Chris simply isn't mainstream enough yet and hasn't done it long enough. The other top candidates are all well-known and have done it multiple years. That said, who cares about the CY. The White Sox have FINALLY hit on a *gulp* first round pick. I didn't think it was possible.
August 23, 201213 yr If he ran the table, and in the process beat the Tigers and Verlander twice, plus the Rays at the end (maybe Price), he's got a good shot. I just want the Sox to win as many games as possible over the next 6 weeks, and have Sale win the World Series MVP. That would be my preference.

There's no one guy who's been head and shoulders above the rest, as was the case from '09 through '11. I still can't believe how dominant the SP is today.

After the 2 run bomb to Encarnacion, he went on to get stronger in the 6th-9th innings and ended up with something like his 18th TWELVE or more K game of his career. Bartolo Colon could get stronger as the game went on, and Scherzer's a close 2nd now in MLB, but there's never been a pitcher who could sustain his success and actually improve in pitches 100-140...at least none that I've seen in my lifetime.

If he dominates the rest of the season, he's winning the Cy. He probably will have a bad start or two and Price or Verlander or weaver will get it. But let's not write Sale off. He's very much in the hunt for that award. But again, I'd rather he win World Series MVP.
