Well those 3 straight games with home runs were in October and they also were when the Sox were eliminated from contention.

 

I agree with Marty that Viciedo was brutal against RHP and maybe could have sat a bit more often. However, the other options out there weren't much better and would not have won the Sox the divison. (Plus, Viciedo's worst moment was vs. a lefty, that bases loaded AB vs. Chen in KC. I still have nightmares about that one.)

De Aza also missed 20+ games from late July on due to various injury/illness which would make it harder to put Viciedo on the bench.
