There's no way our scouts really thought he could be a full-time starter and perform well vs RHP. Everything about him screams platoon catcher.

At one point, Gimenez was a top prospect with the Astros. Of coruse, that was 5-6 years ago, haha.

He has some physical tools, good arm, decent pop for a catcher...I wouldn't be surprised to see him start to receive more playing time.

There's just no other choice, other than Bryan Anderson, but that would mean demoting Flowers or benching him, and they're probably not ready to do that, either. At least not yet.

Which Sale fastball are we seeing so far tonight?

The good one or the Jim Parque on PED's one?

If things play out according to the Sox history this year, Sale will give up runs this inning...

Should have blown the game wide open there.

Where's our GATTIS? The Braves gave us the wrong catcher, haha.

Everytime like clockwork.

6 HR in 34 innings for Sale...righties are hitting him very hard this year.

;)

Baker was a monster last night and just missed homers 2/3 in that game against Sox pitching.

Can't say it's a surprise after the Flowers GIDP.

Have they all been on "slower" fastballs or offspeed stuff?

God, if Soto and his .158 average gets a big hit. Well, maybe this is another version of the 2006 season for Sox hurlers...the Verducci Effect for Sale/Peavy/Quintana.

Too early to tell yet...he has been pretty inconsistent. If you take away that awful start where he gave up 8 against the Indians, he's been very good, but definitely not great.

Sale has a good fastball tonight, he should be able to have solid results.

A ton of offspeed pitches it seems.

Sale is kind of having the season he should have had last year. Struggling from the transition from bullpen to rotation, righties killing him. Lots of homers... instead he dominated most of the year.

yay. ace!

The baseball gods HATE the Sox right now.

that's pretty funny

Makes me think trading Peavy at mid-season before he wears down in the 2nd half wouldn't be the worst possible thing in the world, because he gets the Sox the highest amount back in return. Especially a contending NL team, maybe the Rockies or DBacks, that need another veteran pitcher to get them over the hump.

Nobody else would get much back.

no movement on his pitches

Must be nice to have a real hitter up with bases loaded instead of AAA cannon fodder.

afraid to throw strikes

Glad the Sox decided that they didn't need to wait and see how Sale looked after his first full season in the rotation before they signed him long-term...

Anyone that wouldn't trade Peavy in a heartbeat at the deadline if this team continues to stink is baseball stupid.

2 1/2 months now.

Not just the present moment.

They've even cursed our minor league prospects, at least the hitters.

Not to mention all the injuries.

I think he's tipping his pitches.

I don't think our catchers do a good job of adjusting from at bat to at bat. Seems like they get into a pattern and that's a big reason for the struggles later in the game for our starters.

96mph

He'd be very lucky to get out of here tied
