July 29, 201312 yr QUOTE (DirtySox @ Jul 29, 2013 -> 01:07 PM) Joel Sherman @Joelsherman1 26s Hear #Whitesox get future cons Expand Say it's an IP or appearance based return, what is to stop Tampa from just not using him intentionally to not get the number needed?
July 29, 201312 yr QUOTE (Jose Paniagua @ Jul 29, 2013 -> 05:08 PM) So how do these types of trades work? Is there a PTBNL set of player names decided on between teams, and if Crain hits a performance benchmark...the Sox get to pick from the better of the two lists? That's probably exactly what it will be, and I'd guess the benchmark relates to appearances.
July 29, 201312 yr QUOTE (Knackattack @ Jul 29, 2013 -> 05:09 PM) Say it's an IP or appearance based return, what is to stop Tampa from just not using him intentionally to not get the number needed? The Boston Red Sox. And anyway, the White Sox were in a position to take the best offer. If the Rays included an unreasonable number of appearances or innings, the Sox could just look elsewhere.
July 29, 201312 yr QUOTE (flavum @ Jul 29, 2013 -> 10:38 AM) I'm guessing the return includes the words, "future considerations". I rule?
July 29, 201312 yr Deal based on appearances, the more games he pitches, the better return for the Sox.
July 29, 201312 yr QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Jul 29, 2013 -> 04:08 PM) I wonder what the Sox are getting. I hope we get one impact prospect out of this. By trading an injured reliever?

Is there a PTBNL set of player names decided on between teams, and if Crain hits a performance benchmark...the Sox get to pick from the better of the two lists? I'd bet on some measuring metric being set up, such as days on the major league roster (not on DL) or appearance. Certain prospects are out there for different levels hit of the metric, with the best guy coming to the Sox if Crain hits the highest teir.

July 29, 201312 yr QUOTE (Jose Paniagua @ Jul 29, 2013 -> 02:08 PM) So how do these types of trades work? Is there a PTBNL set of player names decided on between teams, and if Crain hits a performance benchmark...the Sox get to pick from the better of the two lists? Usually everything is spelled out and often times the White Sox will have a list of players they can pick from if X, Y, or Z happens. Hopefully for all of our sakes, the info gets released early but usually teams try to keep quiet so those aren't dealt don't know they weren't in the trade.

With the highest tier bringing back 100 of Joe Maddon's pubes!
July 29, 201312 yr I feel like PTBNL leaks don't leak too often but that's seemingly because they are the last part of a trade and no one seems to care too much. Wouldn't be surprised to see a leaked list here. Edited July 29, 201312 yr by Buehrle>Wood
July 29, 201312 yr QUOTE (bbilek1 @ Jul 29, 2013 -> 05:11 PM) I wonder when/how the details will surface... Anyone familiar with such a deal in the past. Like Chisoxfn said...the teams will probably really want to keep the details under wraps because they won't want A-ballers knowing that their name was on a list to be traded and having to deal with that for days/weeks at a time.

July 29, 201312 yr Author QUOTE (iamshack @ Jul 29, 2013 -> 04:10 PM) With the highest tier bringing back 100 of Joe Maddon's pubes! Maybe we can make a genetically modified Joe Maddon from them to manage our team!
July 29, 201312 yr The fact Crain is is a free agent makes this deal a win/win/win for the Sox, Crain and Tampa....if Crain pitches well.
July 29, 201312 yr QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 29, 2013 -> 02:14 PM) Maybe we can make a genetically modified Joe Maddon from them to manage our team! Precisely!
July 29, 201312 yr QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 29, 2013 -> 01:13 PM) Not making the playoffs because they ran inferior players out there? Right obviously, but can the include playoff IP in the deal or if the rays are up 5 games in the last week and he needs 3 IP to fetch the top tier player, can they "rest him until the playoffs" or ?
July 29, 201312 yr Return to #WhiteSox for Crain almost certainly contingent on how much he pitches for #Rays rest of way. Free agent at end of season. -- Rosenthal
July 29, 201312 yr Jeff Passan @JeffPassan 1m Before Jesse Crain was dealt, the White Sox had considered packaging him with Jake Peavy or other players. GM Rick Hahn being very creative. Expand
