So...Jesse? Where are you Jesse? Jesse!?

Saw yesterday IIRC, in the Tampa Times that Jesse is going to start throwing this week.

Have any names started to leak yet?

Nothing and my guess is we probably don't find out until the end of the year since the trade is so much based upon his appearances and/or performance.

Well he hasn't even pitched yet. We're still paying his salary even. I don't think a whole lot can be determined until he actually returns from the injury.

Tampa Bay picked up Houstons last remaining decent reliever, a set up guy like Crain.

#Rays Maddon said RHP Jesse Crain (shoulder) played catch this afternoon and head trainer Ron Porterfield thought he threw really well

"When I'm not playing, I had nothing else to think about," Crain said of hearing trade chatter. "When it came through, I was very excited. It was a tough (season) over there. We were going through some tough times."

He will see better times with the Rays. Tampa Bay entered play Wednesday at 64-43, a half game ahead of the Boston Red Sox in the AL East. The White Sox, meanwhile, have floundered most of the season and sit firmly in the AL Central cellar at 40-64. A timetable for Crain's return remains unclear.

He said he hopes to enter the Rays' bullpen "sooner than later," with a personal goal of pitching again sometime in August. Meanwhile, manager Joe Maddon was vague in placing a target date on Crain's first appearance, instead leaving his trust in head athletic trainer Ron Porterfield's evaluation. "The hope is to get him well," Maddon said. "We don't have any specific time frames yet. All I know is that he is in the right hands with Ronnie Porterfield and the boys upstairs. I don't know exactly the time frame. We just anticipate it's going to be in time to help us." Crain anticipates the acclimation process being somewhat simple. Shortly after the trade was announced, he spoke with White Sox infielder Jeff Keppinger, who played 115 games for the Rays last season. Keppinger's message: Crain would enjoy himself. For the reliever, a trade to Tampa Bay represents a new beginning and an uncommon chance. "To be traded while you're on the DL doesn't happen very often," Crain said. "To come to a team like this, first place, I've heard great things about them. I couldn't ask for anything more. It's an awesome opportunity." Safe to say looks like Sox will be getting a very minimal return for Crain

Hayes said the deal is based on appearance. But anything is better than nothing

Would take it as a positive sign that Crain is on trip with Rays, means enough progress to be monitored.

Not sure if anyone is still paying attention to this, but it looks like we will be luck to pick up cash from Tampa for this deal.

Horrible luck for us, but even if we held him, he'd of provided us 0 value as well. That kills that he got injured.

Why did he have to get hurt. Damn.

Maybe he will be healthy for 2014 and we can sign him again. When healthy he a premier set up guy

Matt Lindstrom is making a much stronger case for having his option picked up and being the veteran setup guy in the pen than I ever expected him to.

Wonderful.

When we needed him to pitch well....i.e. July..he was atrocious.

Isn't his option for like $4 mill?

We needed Lindstrom in July? I thought the team was more than out of the race by then.

In the fangraphs world he's already put up $4 million in value this year. In the B-R world he's put up more.

That was my 1st thought but my 2nd thought was he meant when we could ve traded him .

He was talking about around the deadline when he was horrendous.

Though we still had the opportunity to trade him.

We sure as heck don't need him now.

Crain pitching in Instructional League game today. If all goes well, #Rays plan to activate him Saturday. Potential boost for final week.

Thanks for the update. I was wondering what was up with Crain. If the Rays get a final week out of him what do we get in return I wonder? Plus if they take a wild card spot does Jesse get to play ?
