I agree. Do it first, then talk about it. But he apparently doesn't lack confidence.

De Aza is a left handed bat. I'm not sure why people are so quick to axe him. He can be the fourth OF or PH.

I like that he's thinking in terms of on-base though. Easier said than done for guys trying to prove themselves at the highest level, yet that's his mindset. Value the at bat.

I know exactly what you mean. The usefulness of that kind of thinking is determining whether you should have been able to pull off an even better deal, though. The Pods and Vizcaino deal is our example of a deal that works out for everyone, but I think you could still legitimately question that deal on the basis that maybe we could have done even better for a premier hitter like Lee.

We also saved a lot of money in Pods/Vizcaino-Lee trade and used it to pick up AJ, El Duque, and Iguchi. 5 huge parts to winning in 2005

He's higher on Eaton than most, but in this case I hope he is right. One thing I count on him for is being rationale about starting pitchers, so many people want to anoint pitchers as "aces" or even a #2 or #3 when they pitch a couple decent games in a row.

Without looking it up or doing any calculations, I would guess that 15 homers would be right at or maybe even slightly higher than the Major League average for a starting position player.

Viciedo is absolutely part of the young core. He might flame out, but he has equally as good a chance of being a premier power hitter. He has some of the best hitting tools you'll ever see.

LOL-Viciedo has some of the best hitting tools you'll ever see. You need to watch some more baseball after making that observation.

If he can handle the added pressure and back it up, I got no problem with him telling people whatever he damn well pleases. Just seems unnecessary, IMO.

That's how I view it. A guy like this who is acquired by a team that needs that type of player should come in with goals and a positive attitude that he can make it happen.

It's not like it's insane, he bested those numbers by about 80 points apiece in AAA
