I presume they will wait until Houston signs (but it will happen in the next day or so). Not like you have to be under the cap yet, just need to be under the cap by a certain date (IIRC).

I think as long as you don't spend over the salary cap number by the end of the season is what matters? No?

All of the top DE available are less than amazing pass rushers. Houston is only 26 and could play multiple positions if needed. Has longer track record than the other guys, too. Remember too that sacks are a small part of the pass rush. You'd trade three or four collapsed pockets / thrown away passes for a sack.

Bring me DeMarcus Ware.

Looks like the Bears are adding Safety depth in signing Ryan Mundy from the Giants.

Repeating: #Bucs will push for #Bears QB Josh McCown, CB Charles Tillman and possibly KR Devin Hester.

The safety market exploded, except one guy didn't even get a whisper.

Really hopeful that Byrd ends up back in Buffalo after this.

"Josh is our quarterback."

I still think Jairus Byrd is the only free agent worth signing. I'm curious to see where he goes.

After the flurry of moves today, my realistic side says a minimum 50% chance that he ends up back in Buffalo, and my homer side says it's closer to 85%. The Rams don't have any money, the Jets need CBs and offensive pieces, and the Redskins have needs all over. The Raiders could step up and make a big offer, but Byrd doesn't seem like their sort of move.

Mundy's +0.2 rating on PFF would have made him our best defensive player last year

The Bears are flat out making moves that make sense for a 3-4 defense. Shane McMuffin could be that pass rushing LB.

Bears have agreed to terms with S Ryan Mundy on a two-year contract, team announced.

Nice, Mundy's decent.

Interesting, what'd they have to say about Jennings/Briggs?

It's amazing, last year vet defensive players couldn't smell a contract. All of them that signed 1 year deals and didn't get injured definitely are getting paid this year. Poor DJ Williams.

Peppers, he gone.

@TheChicagoHomer: For comparison’s sake, Richard Dent averaged 9.58 sacks per season with the Bears. Peppers was at 9.5.

While Denver focuses on DeMarcus Ware…Vikings free-agent DE Jared Allen is talking with the Bears and Seattle Seahawks, per league source.

I'm intrigued. Though competing with Seattle gives me doubts.

Amazed Broncos have Ward and Talib signed. How do they have that money? Also, sorry site about Byrd.

I would love to get Jared Allen. He's still pretty productive.

Seattle just paid Bennett and have a lot of other young players who are going to have to get paid. Bears should be in better position financially.

The question is does Allen care about getting paid again or winning right now. His first FA contract was the biggest all-time for a defensive player, so he has gotten the big payday.

I'm sure they figured out a way to circumvent the cap for this year while risking their future leverage. With their situation, they have to go all-in this year.

New Orleans, 6 years 54 million. 28 guaranteed. A lot of good teams are adding good players.
