So am I the only one that seems to think Tony Dungy is clearly a homophobe? I've got people all over FB defending him.

No he absolutely is.

He is based on his religious beliefs. However, I don't disagree with him that a rookie player coming in with his own camera crew and Oprah doing a "reality" TV show would be a major distractron for a team. From a head coach perspective, I don't think a borderline NFL talent would be worth it all regardless of why the rookie had the camera crew.

And he embraced Vick and Tebow, possibly the two biggest distractions of all time.

if youre going to be a distraction then you better be worth it. The moment when he distraction is greater than your talent, you find yourself cut or playing in the CFL like Chad Johnson. So maybe he doesnt think Sam's talent is worth the distraction?

The Oprah thing was already dead and buried when he made that comment, according to the reporter and Sam. I believe the Oprah Sam reality show was cancelled on May 16th.

I understand what he is saying. I agree and disagree with it. And I'm disappointed he feels that way.

It is a distraction. And with Sam it's a bigger distraction than it's been in the past. But it is in no way THAT big of a distraction, especially compared to things he's helped out with in the past, especially Vick.

this is a league that is basically win at all cost. There are a lot of f***ed up individuals that we cheer for every Sunday that coaches feel is worth the headache because of what they bring to the field. Clearly Dungy and 31 other coaches felt Sam doesnt have the talent to deal with everything that comes with him.

Ok. The quote I heard from him said he was asked this when the reality show was announced.

Bears and Ravens had offers in place for Sam after the draft, so 29.

And if Dungy hadn't been a supporter of Tebow who has been the all time distraction, it'd be different. But right now it seems the distraction is caused by people like Dungy.

those teams werent interested in investing into him though because when you release a draft pick after just one training camp/preseason it makes the front office look bad.

Report to Camp Day!

I don't think he is. I think I know what he meant. It's ignorant coming from a black man who was probably in a similar position before though.

I have no clue. I try and ignore the ignorant.

Kinda funny back-to-back posts here.

And didn't his kid off himself while largely being ignored by dear-old Dad?

Jay

lol, Jays insistence that it is a conversion van reminds me of Seinfeld, "Its not a purse, it is European!"

Ray Rice suspended ftwo games for slugging his fiancee. About two games less than if you smoke weed. Way to go NFL. At least he's not a "distraction" to his team.

Plaxico Burress got 4 games for shooting himself, and Brandon Marshall was fined 25K for wearing the wrong color cleats

Ray Rice was suspended 2 games and fined 58K for beating his fiancee unconscious and dragging her into an elevator by her hair.

Totally makes sense

Brandon Marshall was fined for wearing the wrong color shoes, but I don't think he was ever fined or suspended for the couple times he was arrested for domestic abuse.

yea he was

Suspension[edit]Marshall officially received a three-game suspension from the NFL on August 5, 2008, due to off-the-field legal troubles including a drunk driving charge and domestic violence arrest.[29] He appealed the decision and won the appeal, reducing the punishment to a one-game suspension and a fine of two combined game checks, which totaled $52,353.[30]

He slid on one, and on another he was stabbed by his wife.

Still, he got one game. Erik Walden when with the Packers got one game for domestic abuse as well.

These suspensions should be much higher than getting caught smoking weed.

Robert Mathis got 4 games for taking clomid to raise his sperm counts so he could have a child.

Robert Mathis got 4 games for taking a PED masking agent that was on the banned substances list.

Look at it how you want, it was prescribed by a fertility specialist and he got off it after his wife got pregnant.

He broke the rules and took a banned substance that both masks PEDs and arguably is one itself by boosting testosterone. Even if you believe his story, his ignorance and laziness are not good excuses for breaking PED policies.

You're right. Beating your wife is not technically against the NFL rules so it makes total sense that the punishment is less severe.

If you beat your wife, does your employer suspend you or take part of your pay check?
