June 9, 201411 yr I have to say, I'm very impressed by Sox execution this draft. We'll obviously have to wait and see, we may not get the production we hoped. However, we heard a lot about how much emphasis and, more importantly, resources Hahn had put into this draft. And it really seems to have showed. We took players others deemed "unsignable" and have had great success so far signing at slot or lower. I think many would have been happy after rounds 1 & 2 if we punted to make sure we had plenty of room for both. Well, we also added some very interesting names and talent those rounds. We will not know whether this really will be a group that leads this team to another level, but if we continue to perform in drafts like these, the odds will move in our favor.

June 9, 201411 yr Signing Adams at slot is a huge win. He had a late-first-round grade, which would have valued his bonus at between $2 million and $1.75 million. The Sox signed him for $1,282,000. Excellent value.
June 9, 201411 yr QUOTE (maggsmaggs @ Jun 9, 2014 -> 04:21 PM) Signing Adams at slot is a huge win. He had a late-first-round grade, which would have valued his bonus at between $2 million and $1.75 million. The Sox signed him for $1,282,000. Excellent value. Ti'Quan Forbes went 15 picks later than Adams and got $1.2m (slot $958k). And he was ranked in the 40-50 range, with Adams at 20-35.
June 9, 201411 yr Adams to slot is an awesome deal. Cant wait to see what Rodon gets. Rangers just went above slot for Ti’Quan Forbes.
June 9, 201411 yr Of the top 5 picks to agree thus far, one got comfortably below slot (Aiken) and one slot (Gordon). Wonder if that's something Hahn mentions in negotiations.
June 9, 201411 yr Author Daryl Van Schouwen @CST_soxvan 2m Hahn confident Rodon can be signed. Sox history with Boras overstated, he said. Every pick made w intention of signing player.
June 9, 201411 yr Does a future commitment to pay for college costs count against the bonus pool? For example, someone just signed for a bonus and eight semesters at Vanderbilt, that could easily be more than a $200k benefit.
June 9, 201411 yr Something cool about our eighth round pick: http://www.silive.com/colleges/index.ssf/2..._players_1.html Ziznewski said the White Sox called during the sixth round and said they planned on selecting him in the ensuing two rounds. They followed through with their promise. "I was expecting to go tomorrow (rounds 11-40), to be perfectly honest with you," said Ziznewski, who will move to second base at the professional level. "As the rounds were winding down, I was looking ahead to the next day." Edited June 9, 201411 yr by OilCan

June 9, 201411 yr Author Daryl Van Schouwen @CST_soxvan 3m Hahn 'thrilled" with draft. Rodon "a high ceiling, close-to-the-majors, potential front-end piece to fit in with this rebuilding plan.'' Daryl Van Schouwen @CST_soxvan 3m With Rodon 'we intend to be aggressive, be fair and make an offer that, hopefully, convinces him it’s time to begin his professional career' “Not fair to expect [Rodon] to follow same path as Sale but given talent & our experience with it, not unreasonable to at least consider it"
June 10, 201411 yr Tracker (link in OP) is up to date on FS. So far looks like 13 guys confirmed signed or saying about to sign.
June 10, 201411 yr “I tend to be an optimistic guy,” Hahn said. “I never anticipate problems. Look, in reality, we have a history with Scott, a positive history with Scott. He had Joe Crede, he’s got (Dayan) Viciedo. We had Andruw Jones here. A fair amount of this concern, or discussion on how this could be difficult, I think is unnecessary and really not significant to us determining what’s going to happen here.” There’s some thought among baseball analysts that Rodon would ask for a signing bonus similar to what the No. 1 pick is expected to receive. Though top pick Brady Aiken signed with the Houston Astros for $6.5 million, the suggested slot for the No. 1 was roughly $7.9 million. The suggested slot amount for the third pick is $5.72 million and Rodon could try and command somewhere in between those two amounts. www.csnchicago.com (Dan Hayes)

Despite KW's feelings about Boras, he should never had made those comments public.

June 10, 201411 yr QUOTE (bmags @ Jun 10, 2014 -> 10:09 AM) Seems we scouted Hawaii pretty hard. I'm sure the Scout had to justify that. Was not aware of this. Have to believe it was due to Medeiros, who went way, way higher than any mock I saw. Wondering if there's not a changing attitude from orgs in regards to funky pitching mechanics, along the lines of "Hell, all the perfect mechanics guys are having TJS too, maybe we're not as smart as we think we are on this stuff - let's just take a guy with excellent stuff and results."
