Sorry for not looking through it, but yeah thank you. Good sign. Is he better with his stick or pitching?

That seems to be the question, but the Sox like him as a position player evidently. Always has the fallback option of pitching though if things don't work with the bat.

Whoa, Mason Robbins was Kiley McDaniels(who gets a lot of play here) #6 college hitter in his May 2013 "2014 MLB Draft Preview".

Yeah, also Mississippi high school player of the year. He had a miserable year this year but seems he was once quite the prospect. As a mentioned before, quite the nice flyer to take but he could also end up going back to school.

Very good point that I haven't really thought of (just saw we drafted him). And considering our history with keeping pitching and position players healthy is top in the league.

I'm sure that will be a major selling point.

All indications from Jarvis' twitter is that he's gonna sign. Apparently friends with Hawkins.

Rodon follows the Sox on Twitter now.

IT'S A SIGN.

I know the Sox will probably be tapped out after Rodon and Spencer but if I'm De Oca, I don't think pitching in college is the best move with 1 TJS already under my belt. He's really going to take the chance that he will be healthy for the next 3 years, pitching for free? F that. I'd go pro.

My guess is his TJS is the reason he's a firm commit. He probably (rightfully) assumed teams thought he would be an injury risk so he'd fall quite a bit compared to his talent level. Few healthy years and he could be and the top of the draft. Or he gets hurt again and loses everything.

Exactly, why not get paid now though if you already had a major arm injury? If that was me, I'm going pro and taking the money.

You mean Johnny Baseball?

Ok so if your name is Kiley why don't you just call yourself kYylE? Seriously that's a major issue for me.

I asked Kiley McDaniel about him on twitter.

@kileymcd Mason Robbins a worthwhile flyer this late for WhiteSox? Is he signable?

Kiley McDaniel ‏@kileymcd 2m

@JamesFox917 probably. 7th-10th round talent has bigger tools than that but hasn't been good last 2 years after hype out of HS.

Insane amount of senior filler.

Draft is about 15 rounds too long.

I thought people were posting every pick in this thread....I've been duped

Austin to Rodon: You can't get rid of me

Turns out, the Chicago White Sox liked them both. A day after taking Rodon in the first round, Chicago took Austin in the fourth round of Friday’s Major League Baseball draft.

Austin was one of three Triangle college players taken on the second day of the draft on Friday, joined by Duke pitcher Drew Van Orden (Washington Nationals) and North Carolina shortstop Michael Russell (Tampa Bay Rays), who were both taken in the fifth round. Fuquay-Varina prep standout D.J. Burt (Kansas City Royals) also went in the fourth round with Austin.

Austin, a switch-hitting catcher who led N.C. State with a .344 batting average this season, said he got a call early on Friday from the White Sox.

“They said they wanted to keep me and Carlos together,” Austin said. “I thought they were kidding. It’s funny how it worked out.”

Austin, who was Rodon’s roommate for three years at N.C. State, said he texted Rodon shortly after the Sox made the pick, No. 108 overall, official.

“You can’t get rid of me,” Austin texted Rodon.

Van Orden, the 154th overall pick, went to the Washington Nationals after going 6-5 with a team-best 91 strikeouts for the Blue Devils this season.

The Rays took Russell three picks later in the fifth round. Russell led the Tar Heels with a .339 average and 32 RBI. He gutted through the final games of his junior season with a back injury.

Burt was taken 123rd overall by the Royals in the fourth round. Burt played shortstop for the Bengals in his three years as a starter, but could play multiple positions in the pros. Burt has signed with Chipola Junior College in Florida and was expected to sign with a MLB team, if taken high enough.

Green Hope High product Max Povse, who is from Cary, was taken in the third round (102nd overall) by the Braves. Povse, a 6-foot-8 hard-throwing right-handed pitcher, went 6-4 for UNC Greensboro this season and led the Spartans with 81 strikeouts.

Ryan Williams was the second ECU pitcher to get picked in the draft. The Cubs took the right-hander in the 10th round. Teammate Jeff Hoffman was the No. 9 overall pick on Thursday night by the Toronto Blue Jays.

The draft concludes on Saturday with 30 more rounds.
