Good outing thus far by Danks and I have no problem with him coming out for the 7th (and possibly 8th) inning. However, Robin needs to get bullpen up early and have them ready. We can't afford to leave a starter in too long once again and cost us another win.

One of Verlander's best fastballs there against Dunn....96 MPH, which of course resulted in Dunn reaching.

What's the new rule about blocking the plate? Can the umpire call the baserunner safe/discretion?

 

I believe the rule is that you can't begin to block the plate until after you've secured the ball. I think it's to protect catchers from getting railroaded without the ball. Umpire's discretion to call the runner safe, and I believe it is reviewable as well. Avila's play probably could have been ruled either way, but I think they aren't likely to ever call it there is no collision.
