I know alot of you guys are hopeful about Melo joining the Bulls, I'm not. IMO, Melo cares more about money than titles. He isn't going anywhere and he'll get the max in NY. I'm not hating on him, I just don't believe he'll leave money on the table for a shot at a championship.

If that were the case, he never had a need to become a free agent.

This is SOOO bulls front office:

http://espn.go.com/blog/chicago/bulls/post/_/id/19663/

This is the reason they get so much s***.

Is anyone really optimistic about the Bulls signing him? He has to uproot his family and play for less money, and spend his winters in Chicago.

I'm glad this isn't supposed to drag on.

He gets a new contract. Maybe he's like Ozzie and can't work on a 1 year deal.

I'm not optimistic, but I also don't work for the bulls front office and feel the need to open my mouth about it THE DAY HE ARRIVES.

As per the rest, he doesn't have to uproot his family. Boozer's family has lived in Miami the last 4 years, and he really won't be taking in that much less money after taxes. Oh, and he doesn't have to play with Bargnani.

I had read that Phil Jackson wasn't going to offer him the max, so this is just a way to leverage NY into paying him the max. According to that article, Dolan has no problem offering Melo the max but PJax does.

Apparently if he is moving to a new city, his family is coming with him. And regarding the report, who really cares? Do you think there is a chance Melo won't sign because some website is reporting some unnamed member of the Bulls front office isn't optimistic?

No, but I do think the Bulls Front Office has a propensity to make plans for free agency that they can't deliver on and continue to be a first/second round exit team. If they don't feel confident they can land melo, they should not have modeled their last 3 years around "2014 plan".

Because there is a difference between scheduling a visit and contract negotiations?

I am pretty sure you aren't supposed to have any contact. It is one reason about the reports today of teams being the first to contact some individuals as soon as the clock struck zero.

This has also changed about 4 times in the last 2 days.

Reporters can be the worse. Nothing Rose has done this off-season has been bad to date. He's been honest and often times what he says seems to get taken the other way. He isn't going to go out and publicly make a bunch of public comments but instead opts to do things behind the scenes, that is fine. In terms of his team USA stuff, there was nothing wrong when asked. He was honest and just said he's focused on getting better and that was still a little a way and he'd evaluate as it got closer. Whats the big deal in that.

Just cause the media comes out with something doesn't mean much anything. They could be talking to a freaking janitor within the Bulls org for all you know who talked to so and so. This is nothing. I'm sure part of this too is downplaying fan expectations.

They didn't spend the last 3 years around the 2014 plan. I think they had a championship caliber team this year if Rose doesn't go down and they had a championship caliber team the year he did go down. They haven't been on this 2014 plan for the past 3 years.

Normally I'd agree with you but the Bulls front office is unusually disciplined.

I think this year they have a couple back up plans. I know Mirotic was in Chicago the Sunday before the draft. I was in an elevator with him, unless he has an identical twin who likes to wear b-ball shorts with Real Madrid tags on them. The Bulls probably have a couple different scenerios for him, whether it is trading him outright, including him in a sign and trade or having him play for them. So the Sun Times reports that the Bulls are totally unaware of Mirotic coming to America (another classic movie btw) is total BS.

Disciplined or not, that has nothing to do with what a rogue reporter can do / say. There could be very little truth to this and the Bulls might not have said anything. I think everyone knows there is a good chance Melo ultimately takes the money and stays in NY. However, in a S&T I think the "extra" money is a little blown out of proportion. It is extra guaranteed money but if he signs another deal, it really isn't extra money. You can't just assume he doesn't get paid in his 5th year. The bulk of the money driver (if Bulls can offer a S&T) is tied to fact Bulls can offer 4 years and Knicks 5 years, however, Melo likely gets an opt out in the deal anyway in year 3 or 4 and can sign for more. It is more guaranteed money but for a star like Melo, likely not more true earning money over the long-haul.

He had to opt out to get the max deal. Or try and get the max deal anyway.

Nick Friedell @NickFriedell

Bulls officials feeling confident about pitch as they head into United Center. They've always believed Chicago offers best place to win.

?

In the next few days there is going to be tons of information and misinformation out there.

same website, roughly 30 minutes, conflicting reports of a sort, nothing is sure until the signature is on the line

It cracks me up that there are people b****ing that the Bulls are trying to get Melo in the first place, and people b****ing that we won't get Melo. Both faulting the same people.

These are apparently all over the United Center. And Rose and Noah have arrived.

Everything to me is misinformation until something is actually done.

Melo on all the video boards outside the UC is kinda overkill isn't it?

That's pretty standard. They do it in college a lot.

Why? That happens in every sport, in every city all the time. There's never a consensus on anything.
