It was a lock someone was going to mention Rienzo as the answer.

Never said he was the answer.. Was saying you might as well of put him in with how bad the bullpen is.. Not saying we would have won the game if Rienzo would have came in instead of Guerra or Thompson..

This has to be it for Belisario in a Sox jersey

I would really doubt it. It isn't like they have someone else to replace him with. If Putnam and Lindstrom come back, Thompson is going to go and you have to think since they refuse to use Rienzo he will go back down as well.

Well he was kind of counting on Jones and Lindstrom.. And Putnam got hurt who was solid

and the guys he signed that are no longer on the roster or are just a burning pile of trash like Belly.

It's a tough situation for the bullpen--injuries, poor performance, and a bad back of the rotation for most of the season. It's a lot of stress.

Plus the whole major leagues has the same problems, so replacing these guys is really tough.

Agreed. The bullpen is awful but we really have no pitching prospects in the upper levels of the minors that are worth calling up. There are a lot of intriguing arms in the lower levels but its going to take time to build pitching depth in the organization. There sadly is really no one in AAA or AA that looks like they would be an upgrade over what we have right now.

If Hahn deserves one thing its a standing ovation for this pen. Boy did he royally screw it up this year.

Meh, he doesn't have a crystal ball. Can't foresee Jones/Lindstrom getting hurt and Belly/Downs not playing like they have in the past.

And on a rebuilding team, depth in the bullpen isn't really put on the front burner.

Out of the major transactions Hahn made this offseason, the players have either been great (Abreu/Eaton) or absolutely, positively awful (Davidson, Belisario, Downs, Paulino)

How do you figure this isn't a terrible pen?

It's not that I think they're good, but you can compare to the ERA of the Tigers' pen, for instance and see that they're getting more out of less because they still have some semblance of a hierarchy.

Still - in terms of player acquisition, etc - the two best relievers to start the season are both hurt, the next guy to emerge as best is now hurt, and the LOOGY we signed in the offseason who had been one of the most consistent relievers in the game was inexplicably terrible. Not much has gone right and the fact we are very deep into our organization's reliever talent pool is evident.

I think they were counting on Belly to not relive his past....same with Boggs. But that went down pretty much as expected. It was also only a matter of time for Scott Downs.

I wouldn't describe Paulino or Belisario as major transactions. Downs busted but he had been a very solid and consistent reliever for a long time so it was hard to see this season coming. Davidson has been a complete disaster though.
