#WhiteSox lineup for 8/17: De Aza 7, Ramirez 6, Abreu 3, Dunn DH, A. Garcia 9, Gillaspie 5, Beckham 4, Danks 8, Nieto 2. Carroll 1.`

Game in WGN today. I want to see Garcia in action. Great story right there with him working so hard to get back this season

More Dunn, more Gordo, yay. Unless I'm pleasantly surprised with a trade that yields something worthwhile, I have to side with the Clown on how RH is handling the situation.

Holding out for that surprise, because, overall, I really think Hahn is terrific, but feel he's been left a little "mouth agape" by the trade deadline deals not working out. Fearing that he stubbornly is holding out to the long-term detriment of the club.

I guess we'll know in 14 days or less.

Mascot day. Mascots on the field. No sign of Paulie.

Yea and maybe his hands are tied from upstairs and cutting guys just simply isn't an option in some cases. Didn't we eat Kepps salary?

Have wondered this is as well. Don't want to cast my lot with the "JR is cheap" crowd, but yes, there may be limits to how much he's willing to eat beyond Kepp. But if nothing is yielded by the 31st, it was clearly an org mistake, whoever the culprit.

Laughed way too hard at this.

I bet they call him safe

Screwed again...

I hate this stupid rule.

That's legit, he should be safe. He stepped where the plate was and Nieto's leg covered it.

f***ing joke of a rule.

Right call there, pretty dumb by Nieto

Exactly. Reyes beat the throw and only missed the plate because of Nieto's leg. He's safe.

Can't the catcher block the plate when he has the ball?

Still a dumb rule... oh baseball where have you gone....

No, if he has the ball then he can be in the way, but you can't physically block the base with your body unless it's with the tag.

At least that's what I think the rule is.

Except Nieto had the ball when he got stepped on.

On that one, you punish Reyes for not sliding, and the thing is, to me he never had the intention of doing so. He didn't give me the appearance of "Nieto is close to the plate I have to stay up."

If Reyes starts his slide, you may very well have obstruction there. He may make contact and be blocked before Nieto has the ball. Nieto didn't lay his leg down until the ball was in his glove.

Technically, his path was never blocked due to stupid baserunning.

I think Reyes saw how Nietos leg was sort of in the way and he didn't even bother to slide or anything knowing they were going to call him safe because that stupid rule. It's such a joke

What is the difference between being "in the way" and "physically blocking the plate"?

One thing the rule fails to recognize is ground balls on the infield. In both cases where calls went against the Sox, the catcher literally only had a second to get up behind the plate and get set up to catch the ball. There's no time for them to look and see exactly where their feet are and adjust if necessary. The rule is stupid in all instances, but on sharp ground balls in the infield, the catcher has no chance to be legal.

Good eye Avi!

Exactly. And isn't that how that stupid rule is written? It might be the worst rule in all of sports, and that's saying something.

No, the worst rule in sports is "the puck accidentally goes out of play in your defensive zone" and it's a penalty.
