Albert Pujols is the only player to record 30 home runs and 100 RBIs in his first two seasons.

In his second season, Jose Abreu has 27 home runs and 86 RBIs with 24 games left. In his last 6 games, he is hitting .375 with 3 home runs with 6 RBIs. Will he match Pujols' feat?

(Decided against posting the Sun-Times link I saw about this. You're welcome.)

He'll get the hrs. Don't see him getting the rbis. Hardly his fault though.

He'll get there. Using his HR, RBI rates from the entire season puts him on track for 32 HRs, 101 RBIs. If he finishes the final 24 games using his second half pace he is on track for 33 HRs, 105 RBIs.

30/100 is a lot rarer today than it was back in 2001-2002.

Now Pujols broke in with 37/130 and 34/127, so that's a different story.

Damn this is tough. I am hate to say but I'll take the under on both.

I don't think he'll be able to get either. I feel like the offense is going into autopilot the last few weeks of the season.

There is a good chance that he slows down like last September, though.

He ought to get there. Really impressive stuff. More impressive for Pujols, who did so as an actual rookie. Let's be honest, Abreu is in his prime.

Abreu might have been younger in his rookie year than Pujols

He came up at age 21.

Bypassed both AA and AAA, IIRC.

So he's hit 63 HR at age 37-38?

Well, if A-Rod can do it...

Haven't there always been question marks about his age? I was being sarcastic though that he was actually Abreu's age as a rookie

Bump. because he's at 28/90 with 20 games left. 20 games to go 2/10. I think he'll get there.

Update- now at 29/92 with 17 games left. He's been on a tear.

  • 2 weeks later...

29/98?

5 games left?

He's gonna do it.

I'm selfishly hoping he doesn't do it until Sunday, when I'm there, but I also don't want to risk it, so I am hoping he does it any day now.

He has been stuck on 29 HR for a while...

30/99 now. Had a shot at RBI 100 with a runner in scoring position in the 8th and two outs, but he grounded out.

Oh, and there's this:

With his home run tonight, Jose Abreu is the first player in American League history to record 30+ home runs in each of his first two seasons.
