Lmao, no, just no. He's so underrated. People look at his full season stats and think that's indicative of what he'll amount to. I'd argue that his stats since August are closer to what he'll really end up being.

No. He'll get way more respect that Quintana. He was pretty much the consensus top player from last year's draft class.

I too think Rodon's a bit low at #9, but at least he's ahead of Schwarber. I can't believe some people think we should have drafted him over Rodon last year.

I totally recognize that this means nothing, but it was disappointing to me how all of the prospect writers were going crazy this year with the amount of call-ups of big talent, and how completely ignored Rodon was in that. It means nothing, but on the other hand, I like those writers, and I wish the sox gave them more to write about for me.

Buxton and Pederson are the only ones that shouldn't be listed higher than Rodon that currently are. Still, both of those guys are incredibly talented and the fact that there is only 1 pitcher ahead of Rodon and that he is one of only 2 in the top 10 speaks for itself. Position players are always going to be more valued and there are 3 SS and 2 3B ahead of him (positions that are desperately in need of offense around the MLB right now). I have no issue with Rodon at 9 and only Thor ahead of him as a pitcher.

Why? If he had any defensive value then I could understand it, but he can't hit lefties and would be our DH. After his hot start he's hitting .159/.278/.402 in his last 30 games with 40 Ks.

I'll be honest...I never heard of Schwarber on draft day, so I'm just glad the Astros and Marlins passed on Rodon. I think anyone else at 3 would have taken Rodon then too. The re-draft thing is a fun exercise, but there should be no regret with that pick.

 

Hopefully the Sox get him to the playoffs sometime before he leaves in 2021-2022.

OK but I don't understand how a DH who hits 35 HR would be more valuable than a top of the rotation SP who throws left-handed.

There would've been a ton of criticism and hoopla at that time if the Sox had taken Schwarber 3rd overall with Rodon still on the board. Then Carlos surely would've been picked by the Cubs right after that. If that happened, their rotation right now would be Arrieta/Lester/Rodon/Hammel/Hendricks

Exactly. I think that the Cubs would prefer to have Rodon over Schwarber even to this day. Their offense would survive without Schwarber and Rodon would make their rotation much better.

Absolutely. It would also put Spencer Adams squarely in the first round.

FWIW Rodon and Schwarber are the only two to make the top 10 from 2014 class. I think had Rodon stayed down in minors and dominated for a few months, was more ready for the majors than he was and put up better stats, then he would have been higher.

 

In other words, this ranking is strongly tied to how they have performed thus far than what their true tools are. All of the other top guys have been hyped for years and have put up better numbers than Rodon thus far, except for Buxton, who definitely merited the ranking for his tools.

I don't think the Cubs even viewed Schwarber as the next best player in the draft. More like they took him to save money for all the high school arms they took in later rounds (Cease, Sands, etc). Not even worth debating Rodon vs Schwarber on the Sox, as Nola would have been the pick if Rodon wasn't still there.
