Glad we got a guy with experience. I like it.

Good. Now let's get some players to get this team back to playing good ball.

I'm on board with this. Robin is on notice.

Renteria would be a very strong hire if this indeed happens. Thank you Nationals for f***ing up the Bud Black hire.

Bleh.

Wasn't this guy the Cubs manager a year or two ago?

He's better than Mark Parent by default, but it don't see how he's a huge improvement.

It's just nice to have a guy with experience if/when our manager gets canned

What exactly are you expecting for a bench coach hire? Not sure how the Sox could do much better, especially considering Robin's lame duck status.

I don't think he would have have been fired if it wasn't for Maddon becoming available. Right?

That's correct.

I'm on board. Now we need to be aggressive this offseason again.

"It’s possible the hiring of a former Cubs manager turns out to be the most flamboyant move the Sox make."

Pssh :D

Hopefully aggressive in building the organization and bringing in young talent. Like we were in 2013.

Hopefully not aggressive in bringing in"proven veterans" which failed miserably last year.

Renteria did a good job with the Cubs.

I'm fairly certain they dont want to repeat the strategy in 2013 again.

olt, turner, renteria.

Quite a trail of Cubs' cast offs.

Who's next -- Corey Patterson?

Maybe the pyrotechnicians can figure out how to shoot exploding W's out of the scoreboard when the Sox win.

I want Renteria as the manager.

So they got at least their third choice behind Alomar and Acta?

Also, no announcements today on #WhiteSox coaching staff even though it appears Rick Renteria is close to being named bench coach.

Ok so I'm guessing they're working out contractual things. Crossing Is dotting Ts especially with Robin and the rest of the staff on one year deals (?).

He was doing a good job with the Cubs. It's just that Maddon was made available.

here is my question, i do not know nothing of Renteria. but is he really a good coach???

does anyone think he is a mentor for RV while on the bench to teach him the finer points of the game??

can he be the next manager after RV??

Maybe someone can find a counterexample, but if a manager gets fired, it's pretty rare for a member of his coaching staff to get the promotion. If the manager resigns/retires, maybe, but not fired.

i know we are talking about for this discussion.

but if a manager gets fires during a season, doesn't it usually go to a coach for the interim base.
