December 9, 201510 yr QUOTE (Tony82087 @ Dec 8, 2015 -> 06:56 PM) Don't want to make this a Cubs slurp fest, but it's quite impressive watching a Front Office with a very succinct plan and executing on it. Color me not impressed. Coming off of a trip almost to the World Series, their two top signings are Zobrist and Lackey. Honestly it reminds me of the White Sox winter last year, in that all are second or third tier guys. For a team that is going to be one of the most profitable, probably in all of sports, I'd be pretty pissed if I was a Cubs fan that they didn't bring in A level talent to go with that offense.

December 9, 201510 yr It's like they want to add, but not toooo much. They gave away Castro and signed a guy who is about to fall off of a cliff.

December 9, 201510 yr QUOTE (ChiSoxFanMike @ Dec 8, 2015 -> 05:12 PM) That trade literally makes no sense for the Cubs... Cahill is better than Warren, so Warren is useless, and why would they acquire another infielder if they just traded one away and signed another one? I don't get it. Warren certainly pitched well in 17 starts for the Yankees last year. And Cahill is a reliever. I don't get why people thought Castro had surplus value on his contract. Castro isn't making like $3 million. He's making $40 million over 4 years and he hits like dogs***.

Just think how much those two guys would have helped them last year though. They have the luxury to go for it next year. Those two additions are older but shouldn't have a significant drop off. These guys are trying to win a World Series for the first time in a hundred years and these two additions are great for the next year or two...and possibly worthless after that, but still totally worth it IMO.
December 9, 201510 yr What legit contenders have gotten that much better so far? It's early December and while they haven't grabbed a true stud yet, they've certainly gotten better. Their fans have nothing to be pissed about.
December 9, 201510 yr QUOTE (fathom @ Dec 8, 2015 -> 07:52 PM) Definitely seems they are set up for Heyward now By increasing payroll?
December 9, 201510 yr QUOTE (RockRaines @ Dec 9, 2015 -> 02:54 AM) By increasing payroll? Yes, and they are for sure trying to unload Hammel
December 9, 201510 yr QUOTE (fathom @ Dec 8, 2015 -> 07:52 PM) Definitely seems they are set up for Heyward now Even Bruce Levine doesn't think they had much salary too add this offseason. I just dont see it. These seem to be their major moves of the offseason. I'm absolutely estactic for that because I'm not sure they'll be much better. Glad I was right in saying Castro had no value.

Castro and Schwarber for Sale!

Not sure I agree with you WAR each of the last 5 years Ben Zobrists: 6.3, 5.8, 5.8, 5.5, 2.1 Melky Cabrera: 3.8, 4.5, -0.8, 2.5, -0.3 Adam LaRoche: -0.3, 3.6, 0.6, 1.6, -1.4 Zobrist: 14 mil/year Melky: 14 mil/year LaRoche: 12.5 mil/year Yes 4 years is excessive, but had to overpay by at least 1 year. Ben Zobrist has been a really good player. Moving to NL, hitting in that lineup, he's a perfect fit IMO

They added $16 million over 4 years with Zobrist minus Castro. That's nothing.
December 9, 201510 yr Remember the article proposing Castro/Schwarber for Sale? Nice to know that Castro's worth is Adam Warren
December 9, 201510 yr Adam warren is decent. Not sure why people are dumping on him so much. Castro is trash. They got a pretty usable arm, who fangraphs loves (3 war projected next year). Not overwhelming, but at the deadline they basically couldn't give Castro away
December 9, 201510 yr Yeah, Adam Warren is a decent arm. You could argue he's only slightly worse than Shelby Miller. LMAO.

If they really fancy themselves as a World Series team, they needed a front line pitcher worst of all. They just signed a 36 year old who had a career year in STL, while having nothing special happen with his rates. His FIP was almost an entire run higher than his ERA. Zobrist will be nice, but offense isn't what the team needed.
