I don't think he will hit as good as last year but better than his time in Oakland. Like an in between I guess.

I think whoever ends up with Cespedes might end up with the most productive player out of any of the big three and you can include Heywards in that. I think Cespedes just started to figure it out last season with the Mets. Add that to playing with a fellow countrymen and friend in Abreu and hitting in your 1st hitter friendly field in his career. I think your getting a guy at the cusp of stardom and just starting his prime along with Abreu and Frazier.

 

I also think he becomes a better OF defensively by calling the Cell home. He had a lot of OF grass to cover in most of the fields he played in with the first few teams. And then had to deal with the Green Monster.

 

I just really hope we get him. It would just shock me if we did. I still can't quite grasp the thought we will spend that much money or can I see us landing a huge FA. I just get that feeling it'll fall through and we'll have to watch him rake and ask what could have been...

I don't trust Cespedes to be anywhere near last season, and a 4/5 year commitment at his price will be a huge hit to our payroll. I dont think adding just one of Cespedes/Upton/Gordon is enough to truly compete anyways so signing up for that big of a commitment is extremely risky. You're gambling quite a bit there and I, personally, just don't like those odds. I'd rather play conservatively with solid but not stellar moves that wouldn't kill our future resources, try to take advantage of Sale/Abreu by bringing in depth around them.

So he's going to contribute to a competitive roster in 2018 and be close to a ROY candidate? He won't need a year or two at any level to develop? You can plan this setup so well that you're willing to risk Chris Sale walking without a playoff appearance on Trey M's development at 3b?

 

Sign the stupid OF. We already committed to it. I don't like it, I still think we're a 4th place team, but we're at least better with one of those last 2 OFs.

I just hate going after a FA who just had a career year, to me you are setting yourself up for a large financial commitment that won't work out and stump us for years. I agree with you, I'm not a big fan of Cespedes and these situations definitely have a habit of not working out for the Sox. But they put themselves in a tough position by trading for Frazier. From a business standpoint, you can't show that to the general fanbase and just stop. Todd Frazier was a good move but he will not sell tickets. I've seen a few posters on here say they would pick up plans if they sign a big OF upgrade. Hahn has already stated they're not done in the OF and if by not being "done" there means going out and getting Denard Span or Dexter Fowler there are many, many casual fans who will laugh them off.

I agree they should find someone to replace Garcia. Ideally, it will be Cepedes, if the price is right. If not, they will find someone else.
