Well I'd say that would rule out Desmond. There is your Saladino insurance and your Tim Anderson mentor.

Low risk, low reward, but at least some reward possible. He was awful last season.

WHAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAT?

God damn Kenny Williams.

Any chance he actually plays at AAA or does he just get released if he doesn't make the team?

Is it 2006 or 2016?

I would think no chance. Maybe he is a back up instead of Sanchez.

I am sure he got an outclause in the deal.

On a side note, anyone notice how many Saladino as a starter articles we saw in the last week?

Bad news for Carlos Sanchez. Here's your back-up infielder.

I would be surprised...Sanchez can play more positions and MUCH better.

My thoughts as well. I think if he isn't completely terrible he makes the team. Another possible leader on the bench/dugout.

I would think he'll be a backup or not on the team after spring training, correct? Is this a hint of a possible trade involving Sanchez or just adding a just in case guy?

I don't know. I think it's kind of debatable on the more positions part. Depends on Sanchez's arm at short.

Eh. Rollins isn't coming here as a back up, I would almost bet on it. He is either a starter, or he will be released. He is on a minor league deal, which means there is nothing at risk right now, and I am sure he has an opt out, or a handshake agreement about playing time.

I see no real downside to this move. His drop off last year was pretty scary but this was a guy that was projected to still get a shot to start this year.

Nothing wrong with a vet like this for a year.

Though I will say if Rollins is the starter, Saladino makes a much better utility guy.

No reason to get worked up over a minor league deal, but I really hope this is just to give Saladino some competition. Jimmy Rollins better not be the Sox opening day SS, unless Saladino gets hurt. Let the kid play.

i too see Rollins as the starting guy. if you're going for it, you play all the higher ceiling cards first and milk it. Saladino is 26 so i dont really see much mystery there. He's a defense-first player, period

This was my thought as well. If Rollins can start, Saladino makes a nice utility guy. Does Carlos Sanchez have any value? Sanchez/Petricka get a decent OF or probably not?

He has actually put up a better fWAR than Alexei the last 2 seasons.

How is his defense these days?

I still don't think the Sox trust Sanchez to be a solid SS due to arm strength.
