May 3, 20169 yr Some folks have expressed concerns at Anderson's high strikeout rate and generally mediocre hitting results so far in AAA. Here's why you shouldn't worry about it, at least for now, and probably the rest of this season at least. What are your thoughts on Anderson?
May 3, 20169 yr If Anderson is a slow starter at every level he has been at, I'm assuming if he does well this year in Charlotte he's basically penciled in to start at SS in 2017?

May 3, 20169 yr Author QUOTE (Dunt @ May 3, 2016 -> 08:15 AM) In his last 10 games, he's hitting to the tune of .318. He's fine. He's fine, I agree. Though the last 10 games are not why, for me. I actually wrote the article a couple days ago when he had yet to take a walk.
May 3, 20169 yr .318/.362/.340 6BB% & 25K% 3SB 1CS over his last 10. I think Tim will be fine, excited to see him up after july some time.

Yeah, the expectation is that as an extremely raw athlete, that even if he starts slow, that he makes progress as the season goes on. That is what you want from a guy like Anderson.
May 3, 20169 yr Was Anderson the guy a lot of people thought should've made the roster out of ST? I can't for the life of me remember who that person was, lol
May 3, 20169 yr QUOTE (lostfan @ May 3, 2016 -> 11:00 AM) Was Anderson the guy a lot of people thought should've made the roster out of ST? I can't for the life of me remember who that person was, lol I believe you are thinking of Davidson.
May 3, 20169 yr QUOTE (SoxAce @ May 3, 2016 -> 12:08 PM) I believe you are thinking of Davidson. Yes. Brain fart. Davidson's not doing much worth talking about in Charlotte right now though. Edited May 3, 20169 yr by lostfan

May 3, 20169 yr QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ May 3, 2016 -> 01:00 PM) Who the heck are you? some random black guy
May 3, 20169 yr QUOTE (lostfan @ May 3, 2016 -> 12:01 PM) some random black guy wait a sec.. this guy just told me on facebook recently he never posts anymore
May 3, 20169 yr Even some guys who rake in the minors take some time to adjust to ML pitching, before reaching their potential. Crede is a good example of that. So I imagine that the Sox will be very patient with Anderson when he becomes our starting SS next year.
May 4, 20169 yr QUOTE (TRU @ May 3, 2016 -> 04:52 PM) wait a sec.. this guy just told me on facebook recently he never posts anymore "Oh, lostfan, I don't like that guy" "Me either, tbh"
May 4, 20169 yr Rollins is in negative WAR territory...hope they're patient with Anderson, unless they absolutely feel he's 100% ready to deal with the pressure of a pennant race. Otherwise, the three-headed monster of Rollins, Saladino and Sanchez, at least temporarily.

Otherwise, the three-headed monster of Rollins, Saladino and Sanchez, at least temporarily. I agree, let him get his feet wet and deal with pitchers throwing junk off the plate at AAA. I would like to see Sanchez or Saladino get a fair shake at SS over the next 15-20 or so. Leave Rollins to play against LHP since he crushes that and late game base running etc. Edited May 4, 20169 yr by beautox
May 4, 20169 yr Def a make or break year for Anderson as far as his ceiling. If he hits say 280/310/430 down there and plays good defense he's still in line to be a 2-4 WAR starter. If he hits 260/280/380 with mediocre defense then his ceiling is probably 1-3 WAR starter unless something strange happens with his development once he hits the bigs. How's his defense? It looked pretty good in spring. If he's a solid MLB quality defensive SS he doesn't have to hit much to have good value.

Even he scuffles for a few months, instead of a few weeks, that doesn't derail his career or effect his ceiling. It just adjusts the timeline. His defense improved quite a bit last year, to where most folks I talk with believe he sticks there long-term. In 2014, that would have been a 50/50 thing or maybe even lower. But I haven't seen him play this year aside from the occasional look-in via MiLB.tv.

Thanks for the response I'm just not sure how much development he's going to do past age 23, regardless of how "raw" and "new" he is to baseball in general. If he doesn't development this year I think it puts a damper on his ceiling. I'm probably in the minority on that.
May 4, 20169 yr Walks of late are nice to see, but he has too much talent to have so few extra base hits so far.
May 4, 20169 yr Author QUOTE (fathom @ May 4, 2016 -> 12:50 PM) Walks of late are nice to see, but he has too much talent to have so few extra base hits so far. Well first... QUOTE (raBBit @ May 4, 2016 -> 12:59 PM) He was out for like a week with a wrist thing in the middle of April. Second, as noted in the article, the power tends to come later. He's never going to be a huge power guy, but he'll knock a few out here and there.

He's never going to be a huge power guy, but he'll knock a few out here and there. Yes, new level and wrist injury could be a very simple explanation for his not hitting for extra bases. It's coming. He might not turn into a great MLB player, but he is going to be able to put up numbers in AAA.
May 4, 20169 yr QUOTE (raBBit @ May 4, 2016 -> 12:59 PM) He was out for like a week with a wrist thing in the middle of April. Didn't he have a fractured wrist at some point a couple years ago? Edit: he did. I wonder if it's the same wrist he broke?
