Groomsmen Gifts

Featured Replies

Hey guys,

My wedding is coming up in July, and one of the things I have to get soon is my groomsmen gifts. I'll be totally honest, I had no idea the custom of the groom giving his groomsmen a gift even existed.

So... I thought I'd post on here and see what you guys think about groomsmen gifts and what any of you might've gotten your groomsmen before. Another thing I'm curious about is how much I should realistically expect to spend without appearing too cheap while also sticking within a reasonable budget. Also, is one item enough?

One gift I idea that I really really want to get my groomsmen is some good flashlights (because I collect flashlights), and I've been looking around for flashlights that meets my standards, but there's slim pickings. Any flashlights I get would have to be LED, with a minimum lumen rating of 200+ (prefer more than 250 lumens but would look at 200 lumen flashligths), with a battery life of 5 hours or more, and made of metal instead of plastic. My plan would be to get these flashlights engraved with the groomsmen's names.

if i cannot find a suitable flashlight, I was thinking of going to Things Remembered in the mall and they have 4 different items I was thinking about, all of whom I would get engraved: a money clip, an aluminum glass mug, a Zippo lighter, and a flip knife/multi-tool knife.

I primarily want to get something that would be practical, functional, and useful instead of something that would be laying around collecting dust. I figured a flashlight could be something that would always be handy to have, and my 2nd choice would be a zippo lighter because even if you don't smoke, there's something special and unique about owning a zippo. My 3rd choice would be either a money clip or a mug. I can imagine the mug could be used frequently or end up in the back of someone's cupboard, and the money clip may or may nolt be used, dependingon whether someone's really a money clip person. My last choice at this point would be the flip knife, because while it is useful, it might be a shame to dull a knife from wear and tear that was engraved.

What do you guys think? Any other ideas?

I didn't get sh*t when I was in my buddys wedding last summer.

Don, I like the idea of something useful. I have been in some weddings before and cannot even recall what I was given, so it must not have been very useful.

For my wedding a few years ago, I got my guys an authentic Sox jersey, but that was mostly because they were coming all the way to Vegas to be in my wedding. I wanted them to understand how much I appreciated their efforts with a nice gesture.

Think about what your guys do and use most, and get them that. And everyone can get different things - it does not have to be the same gift for each man. Perhaps one guy likes cigars, while another is an avid fisherman, etc. You get it?

Hope this helps.

Not to sound too much like I'm related to Rowand44 but the last two gifts I got were a nice bottle of scotch and a personalized liquor decanter with my name on it.

When I was in my brother's wedding we each got a nice bottle of liquor (I got a liter of Grey Goose) and a mug with either a Bears or White Sox logo and the bride and groom's name and wedding date on it.

This thread will only infuriate me.

Jk. My buddy doesn't have a lot of money and was a smaller wedding. Wasn't expecting anything.

I got my groomsmen custom made bobble heads of themselves

That's pretty cool! Who made them?

It was from a website that I don't remember the name of right now. I do remember that the correspondence was in broken English and it was shipped directly from China, ha.

I think the cost was around $90-100. I only had two guys. One was a ski bum so it was him in ski gear holding skiis. The other was a boxer at the time so he was in boxing gear with gloves on. I just sent them a picture and tried to give any minor details like hair color or whatever.

I didn't realize this was a thing until we were already in Puerto Rico for our wedding, so my groomsmen got a flask with some local rum that I purchased at the liquor store down the street from the hotel. I am a bad friend/brother :(

For the wedding I was best man in, my friend got custom mugs made up with our names engraved on a little plaque plus a personalized little knife.

If your guys have been in weddings before dont get them that stupid flask thing from the groomsman store. I threw away my last two. Tux rental place has that catalog with everything you can get and everyone gets the same stuff.

I gave money clips to all my groomsmen. I like the flashlight idea. I liked getting some thing useful of better quality than I ordinarily would have bought for myself.

I definitely did not know you can get each groomsman a different thing. :) that's very helpful.

Yeah, I'm getting married in a couple of months and so far I've gotten mine gifts like event tickets, things relevant to their hobbies, etc.

EDIT: Also, buying each of them the matching tie they need. (not having them rent tuxes)

I got my groomsmen a personalized glass with their faces painted on it cause I was the first person married and didn't know what the hell was going on. Was cheap though.

Then my best men got me nice shoes to wear at their wedding and a nice tie. I wear those all the time and they are great.

They spent way more though.

I can honestly say I have no idea what I got my groomsmen. I wanna say gift cards? LOL

I bought my guys Busted Tee's shirts based on something they've done or said in the past or something that fit their personality. It was cheap, but IMO more personal than a branded flask or whatever that seem to be typical gifts.

I got my guys all Adidas track suits since our wedding was on new years and everyone was lounging the next day.

I did a box set of CDs (it was the 90s) with each man's favorite artist/band.

I expect a similar gift when I'm in your wedding.

The coolest groomsmen gift I ever got was a customized Jordan White Sox jersey. The groom got all of us customized Sox or Cubs jerseys depending on who we rooted for. The other gift that I liked a lot was a personalized cooler bag with a 6 pack of our favorite beer in it.
