June 5, 20169 yr QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Jun 5, 2016 -> 10:52 AM) Well, that's dumb Steve Stone doesn't think it's dumb because Latos is 6-1. Brilliant!
June 5, 20169 yr QUOTE (GreenSox @ Jun 5, 2016 -> 10:53 AM) Good move. Gonzalez can strike guys out....this may work out.
June 5, 20169 yr Latos has been better his last 2 outings. Gonzalez got away with walking the leadoff guy a bunch his last start. I would imagine if Latos doesn't pitch up to snuff, Gonzalez replaces him. I don't see what is wrong with that. Latos gets the first crack.
June 5, 20169 yr Yes. Giving Latos the first opportunity seems to make sense. If Latos doesn't prove worthy of the 5th spot in the rotation, they can always move Gonzalez back into the rotation. I would not be surprised that, as the season goes along, the Sox also think other pitchers in the minors might be ready to give the 5th spot a try too.
June 5, 20169 yr This is the one way the Sox can hold on to both pitchers. This is roster management.
June 5, 20169 yr QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jun 5, 2016 -> 11:16 AM) This is the one way the Sox can hold on to both pitchers. This is roster management. Not true. Gonzalez has an option left (options are good for a full season). Unless you meant just on the 25-man roster in general than yes it is. Edited June 5, 20169 yr by soxfan2014
June 5, 20169 yr Long term - I get it. If Latos was immediately sent to the pen, I could see him becoming a real asshole about it. Hopefully this lights a fire under his ass or allows him to accept a demotion to the pen should he fail.
June 5, 20169 yr QUOTE (hi8is @ Jun 5, 2016 -> 01:29 PM) Long term - I get it. If Latos was immediately sent to the pen, I could see him becoming a real asshole about it. Hopefully this lights a fire under his ass or allows him to accept a demotion to the pen should he fail. I was just going to say this. Latos probably can't take being sent to the bullpen without some major meltdown or flipping out on someone. Miguel is probably a lot more likely to swallow his pride and just do it.
June 5, 20169 yr Yeah, no complaints with this move. Both have been serviceable but Sox seem to play well when Latos pitches and we can hold on to both pitchers this way. No brainer. If Latos struggles, yank Him.
