Water carrying from the white sox community
Moan4Yoan replied to whitesoxwinner's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Great point, and Parkins kept his job. And after Lawrence Holmes and his softball interview with Hahn, who would you rather have interviewing Chicago GMs regarding their poor decisions? Parkins is the man. -
The point is, Eloy playing in he minors a few weeks into this season means jack. The Sox aren’t winning anything this year. There is no reason for him to be on the opening day roster. We are a team who won’t go 10 and $300 million on two 26 year old future Hall of Famers so we need to milk Eloy for everything he is worth.

We already acquired Colome but you want ‘ol graybeard too?

2018-9 MLB off season free agency thread

I am more shocked by the years than the money. Won’t he be 37 at the end of the contract? -
Tom’s Pickle is in way too deep.

Time has already told. The market is set by how talented the player is and what teams are willing to pay for them. The $300 million mark isn’t anything new for premium young talent. Stanton set the mark not too long ago. If anyone is deserving of $300 million guaranteed, it would be the two 26 year old future Hall of Famers that were available this offseason. And if you aren’t offering 10 years then you aren’t getting the player, so how is that well thought out? It’s well thought out for the team’s advantage maybe but that won’t get the player signed. Hahn and the Sox either needs to be prepared to pay the market rate or stay in the kiddie pool with the rest of the non-spenders. -
Jones, CarGo, Span, Manny, Ken Griffey Jr., Erstad.

😳 Jon Jay doesn’t make any major league team watchable.

Sullivan: No matter how much $ is spent, it's never enough for fans
Moan4Yoan replied to Heads22's topic in Pale Hose Talk
The Sox have spent $45 million this offseason on mostly mediocre acquisitions. A lowball offer of $250 million that isn’t accepted isn’t the same as spending $250 million. Sullivan is a hobbit troll who should stay in his cave. -
In hindsight, I’m sure many people would rather have Davidson and Avi still on the team over the more expensive duo of Alonso and Jay. But these same people didn’t expect Hahn to fail so miserably and whiff on Machado.

Sox signing Ervin Santana (pending physical) to milb deal per WSD
Moan4Yoan replied to Sleepy Harold's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Why? Both guys will ultimately lead to a losing record. What does it matter? May as well give the AB’s to young players. -
If Abreu has another declining season, it should be obvious to the Sox to pass. But they will probably just use it to extend him on the cheap instead.
-
I’d rather have neither in CF. Both serve no purpose to the Sox going forward. Give Leury CF starts and then trade him.
-
Then I probably wouldn’t draft a David Eckstein type.

I think to take a guy like Madrigal as high as they did, he has to have plus defense at SS to make up for his lack of power. Hearing that his arm is too weak for SS is a bit disconcerting.

2/23 ST Games, split vs. LAD and OAK

Rutherford probably has to hit the weights like Ryan Sweeney should have. We’ll see what happens. Kopech could probably destroy him in bench lifting. -

Hahn has spent $45 million this offseason on a pile of mediocre 1-2 year stop-gaps which he said he wouldn’t do. He also missed out on Machado by $50 million guaranteed. It really isn’t better than nothing. This offseason has been an epic failure. It would be difficult to do worse than Hahn has this offseason. -
https://www.dailyherald.com/sports/20181204/report-thome-talks-up-white-sox-with-bryce-harper “The long term remains the priority. We aren't looking to do stopgap fixes, so to speak. In this free-agent market, there are potential opportunities to convert on premium talent that would fit along with what we're trying to develop for the long term.” Nova, Alonso, Jay, McCann, Santana... 🙄

That was anti-climactic by Eloy. -

These uniforms are tight butthole. Meanwhile, Fulmer is still a bust. -

It was a nice strikeout though. -
Extending Abreu would be a waste of money. He’s an aging slugger with no defensive skills. He will be a waste of money playing DH with a declining bat.

Rebuild: Phase 3 has officially begun
Moan4Yoan replied to ChiliIrishHammock24's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Good. -
The original problem is still the same — “same FO staff from 2008.” No one has any confidence in Hahn, Kenny, and JR to seize the opportunity and spend money when a perfect time like now becomes available to bring the rebuild to the next level of tacking on established talent.
-
How many times has Hahn also used the phrase “mired in mediocrity?” Fraud is right.
