Tough one, Sox hung in there.
Today

Doyle also would not have bobbled that ball in CF as Peters did, that allowed the Cubs run to score.

Except Doyle does have that equalizing arm in CF.

2026 MLB Catch All (Non Sox, Non AL Central)
https://nypost.com/2026/08/17/sports/diamondbacks-ketel-marte-moved-to-restricted-list-after-no-showing-game/ At least Vargas didn't go AWOL so many character issues with this guy...right in the heat of the pennant race, of course

I’m aware, but I also think they’re a better team with Peters in the lineup than Doyle, Braden is way better vs RHP and no Acuna. Sox are going to need some power by Colson against RHP down the stretch. 5-9 in order today was predictably bad.

Kyle Teel ankle injury
Hard to not get into a hitting rhythm all season and just pick it right back up. Mune hasn't been 100% the same as pre injury form and that was six weeks instead of months.

Sox have higher OPS against LHP by like just .07 - .08 points. Pretty similar. Guess it depends if you want to see more Acuna or Colson.

Or the Red Sox

At least 9 of next 11 games are against RHP.

Gausman is hittable, WAS just got to him for 6 ER and they have a similar offense to the Sox. Hard to know what to make of Holmes since his return. Meh debut vs. KC, good line vs. STL but his velo is down and he wasn't missing bats at all (3 whiffs in 80 pitches). Should be able to string together offense against at least one of them, just a matter of who can give us innings on the other side.

I’m tired of posting it but skip was gonna put in Mariano but he’s not on the team.

Agree. Our defense was mediocre at best, and our manager made some bad decisions. IMO.

Pitcher decisions in Sox extra inning losses: Boston: Fedde L, Brazoban and Richards BS Minnesota: Tyler Davis L A's: Leasure BS, Lucas Sims L Nationals, part 1: Jordan Leasure L Nationals, part 2: Seranthony Dominguez L Detroit: Seranthony Dominguez BS, Brandon Eisert BS + L Cleveland part 1: Grant Taylor L (unearned, Manfred man); Joe Rock allowing a run in 8th turns Sox comeback into a tie instead of go-ahead in the 9th Cleveland part 2: Hudson BS, Newcomb L [Note: Seranthony gets a hold here, giving up 2 runs. Hudson gets the BS allowing Seranthony's runners to score] Cincinnati: Grant Taylor BS (allows Hudson's runners to score), Newcomb L (Manfred man) IDK what it all means but it reminds me we may be limited in what we can learn from results far earlier in the season. Seranthony in particular was involved in so many of these games in a generally unproductive way. Lot of other guys who are no longer around. Hagen might be joining them before long.

It is a crazy stat with a decent sample size.

Gave this one away. Horrendous being there. Now it gets harder. I’m pissed as hell.

We need to hit some homers and build a big lead and avoid Manfred ball. Then we have a big chance.

Wait until they claim Civale in few days and he gets innings

Tomorrow is a new day boys. The pen has over performed and clearly he was trying to save some arms today. These moments are good for a young team to experience. My only concern is with our current rotation of 3 starters how do do we get through the next 20 days. We really need Smith or Thorpe to become a thing down the stretch.

I don't really like our odds of winning the next 2 with the pitching matchups. But I said the same thing about the first 2 games in Detroit and we somehow pulled both of those games out. Truth is, if the offense shows up and our combination of openers and bulk relievers keep them under 4 runs, we've got a shot.

Well, if Sox go on to miss the postseason, their fans will say it was cause of them (like Sox did with Caruso).

What will a Cub sweep do to the Sox and their fan base at this point of the season? My nuts are busted after one loss to the Northsiders.

Gonna have to use Thorpe in the next week. 38 games left

If we're going to share extra innings W-L splits, I'll note the Sox are 0-fer on the road.
