  1. Past hour

  2. Is there any update on who will take Shirley's position?
  3. Based on the TV highlights from the era, many guys got 4 to 6 inches off 9f the corner in application.
  4. Here’s the way I see it: Yes, it’s unfortunate and embarrassing for the organization that there’s a history of appalling behavior among staff. Yes, Shirley’s resignation does not magically undo what those affected experienced. Yes, sadly, I do think this kind of thing continues to go on across the league, whether unreported or without repercussions. BUT at least Shirley is no longer one of them. It’s one less shitty scumbag that people have to be subjected to.
  5. Well, anyone doing that in a corporate environment these days would probably be shitcanned pretty quickly.
  6. The whole point of growing up is to actually grow up. We should be proud to get better. We are did stupid things as kids, and the worst of them I am glad to have learned from.
  7. It’s just tremendously weird that there is a large subset of people who openly opine for the better days when they could openly insult people in work spaces and it was fine. I don’t come to work for that. I don’t want to do that to other people. Just doesn’t make sense
  8. It wasn’t massive, it was definitely higher, up around the top of the letters but still at the knees and not any wider.
  9. Yet the MLB took no action and Clevinger didn’t lose his job. Perhaps there may have been more evidence of the accusations against Shirley. The White Sox apparently didn’t treat Shirley with zero tolerance considering there was a previous allegation against him in 2022.
  10. Can we at least acknowledge that the strike zone was massive in those days, not to mention the average fastball in 1950 was probably somewhere around 80?
  11. One saving grace is we will have an easier schedule after this series but like you said we have to win at least a game in the series, if we somehow win 2 it would be like manna from heaven. If the Guards sweep us, its probably over with a WC the only hope.
  12. Their ops would rank 29th in 2026.
  13. The Defense looked like it may be decent enough when Bryant comes back and if whatever is going on with Gordon resolves itself. Texas rookie DB looked the part. The Flores match up this week will be intriguing.
  14. TLDR: It's ok to be trash, I was trash decades ago too!
  15. Guy was allegedly spitting chewing tobacco on his infant and kicking the baby and mother out of the house in the middle of the night. No clue what Shirley said but it's apples to oranges.

The nearer your destination the more you're slip slidin" away...............Paul Simon We rode the big three horses (Mune,Miguel,Montgomery) to get this far. No switching horses midstream. We are in the thick of it, not out of it. LETS FUCKING GO!!
  17. Today

  18. Strange considering how WE reacted to the Clevinger news three years ago. Not the exact same thing here but you would think there would be a similar reaction to this sort of garbage as well.
  19. Maybe this is frowned upon today? Dude this is one of the worst posts I have ever seen you throw out. Honestly what the f*** is this thread
  20. Newcomb + Burke vs. Williams on the mound. The Sox enter the series just a 1/2 game up on the Guardians. Winning at least one game is absolutely essential. If we go 1-2, we’ll be tied in the loss column, but will have secured the season tie-breaker. While the Guardians would technically be up 1/2 a game on us, we’d effectively be up 1/2 game like we are today due to the tie breaker. At minimum, we can’t leave Cleveland without at least securing one W. If we can somehow leave the series with at least one W, we do have an easier schedule to end the season. Both teams play three games against KC on the road. Both teams play bottom three teams at home with us getting the Rockies and the Guardians getting the A’s. The big difference is we have four games against the Tigers at home while the Guardians have three in Boston. Obviously you still have to play the games and Sox aren’t playing well right now, but every little edge matters at this point. Finally, we really need to come out focused tonight. This is the game we have the best shot of winning IMO. Burke has had two stinkers in his three starts and appears to be wearing down, but remains our most talented SP and the guy I’d put out there in a win or die moment. Williams is obviously very good, but the Sox face two lefties who have dominated us this season the next two games. It really feels like if you don’t win tonight, then you’ll be facing an uphill battle the rest of the series. Venable must do everything in his power to win the game tonight. Let’s fucking go!
  21. That team won like most White Sox teams of the 1950s and 1960s with pitching, defense and speed and had over 700 more hits than Ks. The only reason that they had more Ks than walks is that pitchers had to hit in those days, the position players had more BBs than Ks. Since we are looking at the 1959 Sox, there’s only one team in the AL this year that has a team batting average higher than the .250 of the 1959 Sox and of course it’s the Rays at .261.

    1959 White Sox 580 bb's 634 k's .250 .327 .364 .691 ops
  23. That comment by Kolson really has me steaming. The Rays who have already won 90 games are one of the few teams this year with more hits than Ks and by over 300, the Sox are just about the complete opposite. The Rays have played old time baseball this year which is really refreshing, I’m so tired of the modern game with strikeout after strikeout and all this BS about bad speed and launch angles and that Ks are just another out. We really don’t have to go back that far like the 1950s for old time baseball, our 2005 World Champion White Sox had 450 more hits than Ks and could beat teams all different kinds of ways, remember Ozzie’s Small Ball. The Sox can’t trade Kolson Montdumbery fast enough.
  24. Even though the Amtrak proposed maintenance yard relocation is only the first of many hurdles before a South Loop ballpark becomes a reality, it feels like if this step gets done then a new ballpark is all but happening. Ishbia has said a new stadium would be privately-financed, so that removes the biggest hurdle (state funding). I doubt the city will balk at funding infrastructure for a development with this much private investment. He still needs to close a deal with BNSF for their yard, but that isn't likely to have public opposition. Oh sure, there are still ways this can fall apart and nothing is guaranteed until there are shovels in the ground. Ishbia doesn't even own the team and may not until 2034. But, it does look like a lot of things are being done to make this happen. Bringing in Northwestern Medicine as another anchor helps, too.
  25. The more I reminisce, I guess you're right. In that environment, it was more like college friends, and some of the women - I'd get in regular arguments with over work expectations, conduct and stuff, co-workers compared it to siblings. There were attractive women, but nobody I'd start vomiting out lurid, vulgar stuff like maybe Shirley did. Everybody trusted each other. And the ugly stuff crosses a line and destroys that trust that makes the workplace work, even when people get baudy and open up to each other. Now, retail in my teens (70s-80s) and construction in my 20s (1980s), racist and sexist like you wouldn't believe. The Rodney King riots happened then. Boy, the conversation at the lumber warehouse with other truck drivers who watched the footage.
  26. I know what it is lol. Geez. What next, lessons from The Game about PUA's?
  27. Sounds like another less high profile version of Liar's Poker, American Psycho and A Man in Full. Maybe yours has less cocaine and yachts/strippers involved compared to the East Coast Wolf of Wall Street types.
