Is he any worse than Trevor Richards? As much as people scream about him, Richards has a nice WHIP and is working on a 6 game scoreless streak. Hicks would refuse an outright assignment and become a free agent for the control over his callup, I'd imagine.

Hawk and Wimpy was an entertaining pairing that also taught a lot about what was going on in the game. I don't think Schriff has ever uttered a sentence I found interesting. When he talks about players' game prep, or changes they're working on, my mind argues with it as something he doesn't know but was told. Hawk, Wimpy or even Stone add such a dimension. Even Benetti sounded authoritative in ways Schriff will never touch. His constant "Do you give him the green light on 3-0" is so pedestrian. Any of us who never played ball and have no broadcast experience would stop using that as a crutch after the first half dozen.

As it gets repeated every time this comes up, International classes are usually lined up 4 years ahead of time. There were a few Yankee commits they released who might have been bouncing around, and once they said they were signing with Phil or Cleve, they traded money slots.
