Chris Getz's worst trades. Remembering, of course, that your criteria is "I can imagine the players we sent being Hall-of-Famers", and plugging an acquisition into the spot that was intended means a trade was a failure. LOL.

So let me get this straight. Mason Adams, a player who hasn't been good for 2 seasons, is now a "big price" to pay for a guy who "hasn't been good for 2 full seasons"? And Getz is showing he fucked up by using Doyle pretty much the way they were trying to use the guy he replaced, Everson Pereira? Colorado gave away Doyle for nothing. Mason Adams takes on the Braves in Atlanta tomorrow. I hope Adams shoves and positions himself as part of the next Rockies' core. Improving on his adequate 4 innings last time out will be paramount. I think it's off-the-charts great that in two seasons, Getz has created such a backlog of infield talent they're able to trade some away and repurpose the better bats to create a backlog of outfield talent. Oh, the Sox are 13-11 since the TDL. That's a .541 clip, which is better than their .531 pct they held on 8/3. Chris Getz's TDL have them playing better than they were before the TDL.

Well, they already did that with Curtis Mead, Tristan Peters and Miguel Vargas, as far as maxing out their offensive potential. We act like, "Oh, noes, they traded the one guy they could have used to trade for somebody," as if that's the only surprise minor league guy who will come along. I think they have at least 4-6 guys like that from Kannapolis on up who have a similar value to Boston Smith. The TDL is nuts, and it sure sounds like the asking for guys like Detmers was way out there. It is possible Getz wasn't the only suitor for Castillo.

I would think that if they could target a 6th rounder out of somebody else's farm system to teach up and get them hitting 30 minor league HRs, they could do that more than once.

Going out on a limb here, but I don't think this team loses 90 this season.

Respectfully responding to @Lip Man 1 from yesterday's game thread. I disagree over whether he should have been acquired in the first place. I'm guessing the price for currently productive starters was astronomical, and Getz was unprepared to empty out the farm system to get a glorified #2 and #4. The pitch selection they had in mind when acquiring Castillo worked against a 'not good' Reds' team. If they can coax more of that out of him, they have a controlled starter with playoff experience, and did well in that exposure as recently as last October. Reinsdorf does have a history of extending pitchers. They've generally gone the rout of trading for and developing pitching, rather than grabbing up a free agents at market prices. Trades do get players at cheaper market prices. I don't know if that's a dictum that comes down from JR, or if Schu, KW and Hahn skewed that direction to stay out of those awkward conversations with the boss. As far as Castillo is concerned, I would think they don't even start having "the talk" until next Spring Training. A last resort would most probably be seeing what he looks like rested after an offseason.

Why in the f*** would they trade for a guy they thought they could work with, take on his salary, then dump him after 5 starts? Any owner would be colossally stupid to do that. People whose career in baseball consists of more than watching the TeeVee saw something in him. They're going to give him some ride to see what works and what doesn't. It's not because Reinsdorf's cheap.

Weird that Luke Keaschall is such a great, rising talent that Getz should have done anything to acquire him, but he's easily moved off 2B to the OF for a nepo lifer in Kody Clemens.

Such an opportunity to beat on JR for saving a day's MLB active roster money by dropping Nishida today and not tomorrow. People here are slipping, I tell ya.

"Believing" in a player doesn't mean not planning for injury or fall-off.

Boy, you sure love your teeny tiny sample sizes. Weird how 4.0 IP makes Mason Adams a viable playoff starter, but nobody gets to reference an entire season of stats from 2 years ago to argue that a pitcher has had major league success. Castillo and Urquidy also did well in one of their White Sox starts. A move works out or not over the long haul, not in one game.
