Benintendi is a league average hitter. He's streaky. There is no lefty bat on the team to replace him right now. I believe that when Pereira comes back, Nishida goes back to AAA. However, I think the move that will matter is when Mune comes back around the ASG. It comes down to how Gonzo's taken to pro pitching, and how Benintendi's maintained this hot streak. I foresee Gonzo cranking, and Beni dithering, and then it's not such a weighty decision to either move on from Beni, or he's your lefty bench bat. Or Gonzo goes back down for 7 weeks, and he's the extra man on Sept 1.

He’s compactly built without much projection to improve his below-average raw power, but he’s also the type of hitter to choke up on the bat even when he’s ahead in the count in a spot where a single scores a run. Antonacci is capable of some jailbreak sprints a shade under 4.2 seconds out of the left-handed batter’s box, but he stole 48 bags with largely average run times. Maintaining third base versatility is important for his profile, but Antonacci’s arm is stretched there and it shows up in the form of rushed actions, though his range is also below-average at the keystone. His contact rates are good, but he’s a little too vulnerable to velocity up and away to project Antonacci to be a 90% or better in-zone contact specialist. He only chased around 20% at Birmingham, but he’ll need to maintain his Caleb Durbin-levels of plunking absorbance to live as an OBP-machine with limited defensive value, though the Sox are entertaining the notion of trying him out in left field. Antonacci already has a reputation for the kind of relentless motor that minor league skippers love, and he’ll need one if he’s going to transcend a bench role. Because of their OBP-centered production and a burning intensity that allows them to outstrip meager physical tools, Antonacci seems comparable to Chase Meidroth. That Meidroth graduated as a 45-FV prospect is a testament to him being a meaningfully superior defender, but ironically, they could wind up as platoon partners by mid-2026.

Meidroth's OPS split is .661/.943 (v. RHP/v. LHP). Ant-man is .875/.319.

Don't forget Pereira. Ant, Mune, Vargs, Colson, Pereira, Teel, Grich, Peters, Droth is a pretty good lineup.

If Acuña can consistently get that little bit of elevation as he did on that double, he can probably dig his way out and achieve replacement player status.

A great way to fan is to pretend that if you were GM, you would only sign sure-fire hall-of-famers and immediately cut every player who wasn't that. It took Kay putting up 6 good-very good, solid starts for us to start trusting him and to pay rapt attention. At which point, he allows 6 runs in 4 IP against a perennial playoff team. This team was built to challenge .500. They might be a little better than that, with more help on the way. This was always going to be the year they had to work up to finding out what they have in Schultz, Hagen Smith, McDougal, Taylor, Martin, Shane Smith, Sandlin and Burke before they start adding. As you said, guys like Fedde and Kay are there to eat innings and spare the bullpen. I sure would like to feel more confident when Kay starts instead of looking up after 6, and seeing the Sox up 6-2, the 2 coming on a 2-run, 1st inning HR. But this is where we are.

Unless Derek Hill has some residual pain that makes him almost unplayable, I would think Rikuu is the one to go with Pereira comes back.
