I think they have to take a look at what's going on with pitching development. There's been a bunch of injuries, which happens, one key guy got the yips. There have been others who have developed fine (Burke, Martin, Hudson, Taylor). It's pretty short-sighted to set up an area, and after a year of setbacks, start firing people. I think they have to re-assess. A couple of people here haven't gotten over not being personally called by JR to run the White Sox and exude envy on a daily basis. Getz has set up an entire hitting department that's paying off in spades. Maybe they've got some fine-tuning to do on the pitching side. If Banny won't hear of it, then move on. If he's open and honest, and can be the change, then soldier on.

If they're going to sell the farm for Skubal, or drop some lifetime dime on a free agent, yeah, I think Getz might watch a game or a bullpen. But no, he's not traveling all over the country to watch somebody's rehabbing pitcher throw a game in AAA. And the scouting they're doing, probably watching to see if the pitcher's really doing what the numbers indicate, or looks like a healthy version of himself, he employs guys who do that better, and that's their job. If the Sox are seriously interested in maybe 20 starting pitching targets, a dozen bullpen arms, 4-6 catchers and a bunch of RH bats, why in the world would he be scouting them?

And no, Bannister's job is not to develop arms. He's director of pitching. Setting the team philosophy of what type of pitchers to pursue based on what the team wants to invest, or what statistical traits to look for to find "market inefficiencies" that they can easily work with. You seem to be leaning into this "blame" framing. I'd expect that sort of argument from that crying child from yesterday's game, but only when he's really tired and hungry.

No, Getz's job is to manage the interaction between scouting and development. It's shorthand to say that "Banny's got a type". Sorry if that confuses you. I would imagine scouting and "Banny" are on the same page in that the scouts already know what our developmental strengths and preferences are, and they're making sure dudes look healthy and as advertised. There are entire departments that run numbers on everyone in the league, and asst-GMs who get all the trade talk started. Getz delegates. That's how he ends up announcing that Acuña's a switch hitter. Seriously, if you think that Chris Getz is sitting in the stands of a game in Rancho Cucamonga with a radar gun, you're not even clearing the low bar you've established for your posts.
