I’ve been screaming at the catchers all year for horrible challenges and non-challenges, but I’m not even that mad at Quero on that one. He made a decision to throw behind the runner before the pitch was thrown, and it was once again bad luck that it happened to be a pitch he needed to challenge. When you’re in catch and throw mode, you probably don’t even know exactly where the pitch is.

I’m more concerned with Acuna batting.

That hurts. Even a walk there would have been huge. Then Antonacci would be the runner and Acuna could be used to bunt.

Burke, Hudson, and Taylor all pitched well tonight. Complete bad luck 8th inning, including Quero deciding to throw to third on the one pitch he needed to challenge.

I think you saw his stats on the screen and didn’t realize it was his career stats with the bases loaded.

Yeah, I think it’s just recency bias. If you take out these last two when Chase has been hurt, and then look at the last ten games we’ve faced a lefty before that, my guess is that he has sat more than started in those. But I think he got more starts against them earlier in the year.
