  1. I think this was the whole plan all along. Get rid of a bunch of high priced relievers, and supplement Bummer/Santos with Patino, Leasure, and then maybe you move Toussiant/Scholtens or whatever into the pen next year and maybe add like one semi cheap vet reliever basically you have your own BP on a shoestring budget. If they are going to go from 180m to 140m or whatever they are going to have to make the math work somehow.
  2. Good to see Wolkow with an encouraging start to his young career.
  3. I get the feeling KW might recommend her to take over all operations since he wants to retire and he knows JR won't go for someone he isn't familiar with. But it won't matter if she can't convince JR to spend on R&D infrastructure.
  4. Very tough to develop anyone that way. JR doesn't want to pay for another 50-60 employees, I don't know what they earn but assuming they are paid reasonably well, that's prolly somewhere around 10 million (assuming an avg of 200k I dunno if that would be accurate for those positions) roughly, not including retirement, benefits, it could be alot more than 10m in that case. Seriously, just figure out what it would cost to hire a legit analytics and farm development staff taking some from each of the best clubs, cut it from the team payroll if need be and then let the chips fall. At most it's what another 20 million? I think most of us would be ok with a payroll at 150-160 instead of 180 if we reinvested that money on up and coming minor league development staff, coaches, analysts and analytics infrastructure. Hire a couple from LAD, TB, BAL, CLE etc. JR will make the money back and much more....in fact he could probably end up being very competitive with a payroll much less than 150-160 if he made a serious investment in infrastructure so I don't understand his cost/benefit analysis here.
  5. He's doing fine and should feel fine. Dude is getting a whole GMs salary for just having a silver tongue and meeting with the press a couple times a month. That's literally all he has to do now. Nice gig if you can get it.
  6. Yep. Looks like @Harold's Leg Lift was right and RH is basically getting his GM salary for being just a glorified WH press secretary at this point.
  7. Yep, that's a lock now.
  8. This. Good to see Quero doing some good work behind the plate. He's super young for the level so his bat will come around. Glad to see Colson savaging already.
  9. It would help to know what were the final Cease offers. BALs offer for Flaherty was very weak and STL took it. Not clear what they offered us for Cease. Harold suggested teams were prospect hoarding, again tough to say without knowing offers. Same for TA. I like the return on Burger trade alot. For trades completed they did well on returns.
  10. Good return....could be No.3 or better and LHP....he did have surgery in 2021. Definitely sold high. Now go get Grayson, Hjerstad and an IF from BAL.
  11. Nice. Hopefully CM can keep raking in AA. Gonzalez should move quickly. He should get to High A before the end of the season.
  12. If Manaea opts out, they'll sign him on a buy low deal since they wanted him before. They can prolly get 2 3/4 SPs on 1-2 year deals at somewhere between 10-14m each per year. If they keep Cease, add those 2, Kopech at 4 and then Nastrini or Bush at 5 (or Toussaint), they may go with that.
  13. Tyler Black might be a future White Sox in a few days.
  14. IMO, Schultz should be in High A already and I wouldn't be shocked if he was in AA by early next season.
  15. He should get that chance. Maybe he could go to AAA for the rest of the year, work on a third pitch down there and try to stretch him out a bit as a starter down there. There's not alot of innings left but at least it's something.
  16. When is Wolkow going to get some ACL ABs?
  17. Only if there's real value in return. Now that he's turning it around, we can't give him away for free.
  18. Nightengale suggesting we are gonna spend some money in the offseason after unloading these salaries. Maybe the total payroll cut won't be too deep?
