Giolito & Reynaldo to LAA. Update: Angels put on waivers
SoCalChiSox replied to Sleepy Harold's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Nightengale said he is hearing SD will move Snell and Hader. It was smart to act fast before the rug got pulled out from under us. -
Giolito & Reynaldo to LAA. Update: Angels put on waivers

I have zero issue with that. We all agree they should have been fired long ago. But since JR is apparently unwilling to dump them in mid-season (or maybe ever) and install a legit FO, the only other alternative to letting either KW or RH move the expiring assets is to let the expiring assets simply expire and that's no alternative at all when there's a consensus Top 100 prospect on the table plus another solid piece. -

I agree that it would be more ideal if they had re-signed Giolito as opposed to haggling over 50k and blackballing him for being the union rep but that's JR for you and we know JR doesn't give big money to pitchers and this organization has a losers DNA and therefore will always be penny wise and pound foolish. Be that as it may, at this point there's universal agreement the rebuild failed and we needed to get some real value for these expiring assets and IMO we did that. If you're upset about the return here we had a poster openly advocating shipping Giolito AND Santos off to CIN for Jonathan fucking India. -

What would have been your contingency plan to get a good return for Gio once SD and NYM dumped their superior pitchers on the market and Moreno blew his wad on someone else? Where would we extract leverage from at that point in your view? -
Giolito & Reynaldo to LAA. Update: Angels put on waivers

Keep in mind the NYM are just about dead and SD just lost 2 of 3 at home to PIT. If both clubs end up dumping their SPs on the market, the return for Giolito almost assuredly would have been worse. In addition, Arte Moreno was obviously in desperation mode and willing to make a clear and early statement to Ohtani go show him they are willing to bend over backwards to try and win, after they prematurely announced Ohtani was off market, he was going to empty his bullets early one way or another and the only issue would be which club would take advantage of that. I think striking while the iron was hot on that front also made sense for us. I don't see other owners out there with a similar level of extreme desperation. Most analysts think we did quite well for rentals. I despise this FO just as much as anyone but it's tough to complain about this return. If Snell, Scherzer, Verlander, Stroman etc got dumped into this SP market, we'd be up s%*# creek without a paddle. And we addressed two immediate needs at once. The FO is comprised with overly smug, and grossly incompetent losers but what's fair is fair you have to give them their due here. -

Thanks for everything, Lucas. I wish you well on your playoff chase with LAA and your big contract, you deserve it. -
Giolito & Reynaldo to LAA. Update: Angels put on waivers

They can't afford to do that with as many holes they have in the rotation and with a more limited payroll. They need him to be in the lower half of the rotation at some point in 24. They need one more close to MLB pitching prospect. -

Eh...its hard to complain about getting a 55 and a 50. Switch hitting C with more power from left side and who should stick and a LHP who should be in rotation is much needed shot in the arm. -

That suggests it's a sellers market for sure I wonder what they can get for Burger? -

MLB has Quero as a 55 and Busch as 50....solid return. I wonder what LAD final offer was.....evidently it was less than that. They addressed two big needs at once so I'll give them props for that. Hopefully Quero can be a LHS and stick behind the plate and Busch can be a good 3/4 for us in the rotation. Need another SP prospect from Lynn -

Lol @ this team -
Yeah...if Harold is right and KW will take over next year then might as well let him make the trades in the next week and just go from there. Tomorrow is a really good time to get some housecleaning done.
