Random thought... really want to want Tyler Smith to be the Bears LT. Dude is just flat out nasty. The amount of holding calls he recorded just scares me. It may be possible that he's tooo nasty. I still hope they get Brown or Fisher, but Smith could at the very least be fun to watch.

Finally a bit of Bears news. They signed Tavon Young, a slot corner formerly of the Ravens. Super injury plagued career, but a lot of upside if healthy. The ravens, who are about as well respected of an organization as it comes, once made him the highest paid slot corner in the league. He played in all 16 games last year and hopefully that's a sign of things to come.

New regime though and that new regimes first attempted move was to bring in a starting 3T, so it definitely shows they view it as a need. I know Jones was brought in soon after what's his face failed the physical and that would make one believe he was the fall back to be the starter, but I'm not so sure thats true. Jones isn't the pass rusher I think they need there.

I think drafting a DT early is something that is being ignored in a lot of drafts. The free agent market for DTs is so incredibly weak that I'm calling for them to sign Solomon Thomas. I have skipped out on DTs in some of my mocks as well, but I'm really starting to think it gets addressed, perhaps in the 2nd round. Logan Hall is a guy I'm kinda falling for in terms of what the Bears want as a player. Dude is straight up M&M.

I'm OK with this. From what I've seen, I'm good with Dane being out there 80% of the time. I think I'd be ok with him out there 100% of the time as well. Also lessens the need for a higher end linebacker. Eberflus seems to really like the new guy they signed whose name escapes me right now.
-
https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.si.com/nfl/colts/.amp/news/film-room-three-safety-sets Looks like Eberflus used to run 3 safety sets quite a bit back in 2019. Dane looks like a guy who can thrive as that 3rd guy at the very least if he's not the 2nd guy next to Eddie. I like the idea of having a guy like Dane out there who can man up vs tight ends and allow Eddie and the linebackers to play more free.
-
He looks like he's got some potential. Outside of 4 starts he played mainly in the dime package as a 3rd safety. From a film study I just watched, he did a really good job covering tight ends(video mainly focused on him shutting down Kelce) and running backs. 4.4 speed and not afraid to mix it up. Probably gonna compete for a starting job.

Oh I definitely agree with that being what I want in the draft, but I think Pringle will primarily be the slot guy and will play there very, very well.
-
As much as I like Beasley, I think they should spend the money elsewhere and take advantage of the draft class while also adding a guy like Keelan Cole or Tajae Sharpe. That said I'm all aboard the Pringle hype train, and also love that Fields and Mooney are working out together all off-season. Add a guy in the 2nd round to develop as the #3 with hopes he turns into a 1/2 type guy. Add another later on in the draft and give Dazz a look too..... Mooney/Pringle/2R/Cole/Dazz/later round pick.
-
Right?! Ironically you could make the argument Mitch has been the better player. Thomas still may have some upside as a 3 tech.

I've got the itch..... post a mock and 5 free agent signings to finish this team out. I begrudgingly did a PFF mock and got.... - Jalen Pitre CB -George Pickens WR - Jalen Tolbert WR - Zach Tom OL - Cordele Flatt CB - Luke Wittenberg OC Signings - JC Trettor OC - Duane Brown LT -Kenny King CB - Solomon Thomas DT - DeShaun Elliot S

Has there been any quotes from Poles on Jenkins? A quick Google search only showed me that Poles would conceivably like the type of player Jenkins is. I still have high high hopes for Jenkins, though probably strictly as a RT. Dude played over 1100 snaps in college and gave up 2 sacks. He's got the nasty Poles is looking for. He's got the QBs back like what Poles is looking for. I'd be a little surprised if he's not given every opportunity to be the starting RT. I'd still very much like to not go into the season with Borum being handed the job and as seen by the Bates attempted move, I don't think we will. Poles had spoke on waiting for the "Second wave of free agency" and I wonder if that just means we're gonna wait on roster cuts else where, or if we start to see these older guys (Trettor and Brown/Fisher plz) signed as the second wave. I'm hoping it is indeed the veteran players that he now looks to zone in on. There are still a handful of older corners that can still help as well that are absolutely starting quality.
-
Just go get Trettor and Brown/Fisher.
-
Lol, he's the "Jags WR" I mentioned in the previous post about trade targets. I'd be all in on that honestly. For the sake of years of control I think I'd prefer a WR in the draft, but if you can get a guy like him for a 6th round pick and a "JAG" like Foles, I'd have a hard time passing. Still a lot of needs on this team. You could push WR out and look at the D in the draft.
-
I think they should go the draft route though. There are just a ton of guys in this draft and I don't think it stops at Watson/Pickens. Alec Pierce is a name to keep an eye on. I may like Pringle more than others here, I think he deserves a shot to be a #2/3 so I'm not sure I'd go WR in the 2nd and a higher end WR In FA or double up in the 2nd.
-
WR targets via trade: Brandin Cooks Tyler Lockett Devonte Parker Jags WR guy Didn't include DK because the cost is gonna be too high. Also, I've moved on to wanting Duane Brown over Fisher
-
PFN....but only because I was bummed at the fact that there were like no WRs there in the 2nd so I said nahhhh I'm out. Lol. I'd really like that draft.
-
Yeah, I'd be shocked if they didn't bring in Brown or Fisher, or maybe even bring back Peters. I think thats the order I'd want them to pursue too. Speaking of the draft, just did my first mock and I'd be pretty happy with this. 39. Devonte Wyatt DT- The WRs just didn't fall the way I would liked and instead of "Reaching" I decided to grab the 3 tech this team needs 55. Christian Watson WR- Traded down to pick up the 87th pick as well. Watson is a small school risk, and the past small school picks by the bears kinda scare me, but Watson is ridiculous. Big time size/speed guy. 71. Kyle Gordon CB- A freak corner with good movement, big fan of his. 87. Jeremy Ruckert TE- Former teammate of Fields. OSU didn't really utilize the TE all that much, so his upside doesn't really show up in the numbers. He is a more than willing blocker and a damn good one at that.
-
Well there we go! A quick Google search tells me PFF gave Bate a 74 pass protection grade while Daniel's had a 69. Sample size isn't big, but he's shown to be a rock solid guard. I think, especially with how bad Mustipher was, that the interior has been upgraded. Now go get Brown or Fisher.....I think Brown had been slept on big time because of his age. Dude was a pro bowler last year.
-
There's still talent out there and upgrades to last year's team to be made. As far as the OL goes, obviously a LT is needed. Duane Brown would be an upgrade to Peter's and IMO so would Eric Fisher. If they don't add either of those guys, then I'd be disappointed. As far as RT goes, I know the injury put some stink on him, but I'm not ready to call Tevin Jenkins a bust after a couple games. Dude was still viewed as a potential 1st rounder just last year. I think he's an upgrade over what they had for the majority of last year, assuming healthy. So in my opinion, if they get Brown of Fisher, the tackle position has been upgraded. The Bears brought in Ryan Bates for a meeting not to long ago and I hope the Dozier signing doesn't take them out of that race or a the pursuit of another interior piece. Mustipher was hot garbage and imo the weak link on the line. Everything I've read on Patrick tells me he's a big upgrade. Cody is Cody and he may even play better next to some better talent....If they can bring in a guy like Bates or maybe take a look at Trettor, then I think the interior has been improved as well. Borum still intrigues me but I'd like for him to be the swing tackle. Then who knows what the plan is for the FB they brought in. That could potentially help protect Fields as well. WR will be upgraded as well. It still baffles me how bad Robinsons numbers were last year so that production should be easy to upgrade. Pringle is not the player Robinson is, but he can out produce what Arob did. I couldn't even tell you off hand who the bears number 3 receiver was last year, so a 2nd round pick immediately comes in and makes that group better.
-
Bears signed Dakota Dozier...who was one of the worst guards in the league the past few years. I know depth is always needed, but oof.
-
Tyreke Hill anyone? He gets a first right?
-
You sir are thinking of Trent Brown who did indeed resign with the Pat's. Duane was a Seahawk and is still available.
-
Random outside the box thought here. Jadeveon Clowney has said in the past that he loves matching up against guards and has played the 3 tech I'm some sets.....What do we think about bringing him in to play inside? Or maybe bringing him in as a DE who shifts inside on passing downs? He's not that much smaller than Buckner who was a beast in Indy. With Armstead off the board the bears have money to play with. Bears have shown interest in Honey Badger this off-season too.
-
Bears not trading for or signing Trent Williams the last 2 years when they were "in the discussion" really sucks. Just saw where he was rated as the top player in the NFL last year. Like not just the top LT, but the top player overall. Oh what coulda been. It only costed a 3rd and a 5th, so at this point you coulda had Williams and a different high pick not named Tevin Jenkins.
