  1. No point now to keep him down. He should make the opening day roster.
  2. I think last year was rock bottom. Especially after the Kopech injury. This year we have an improved BP. I have faith we will see improvements from Moncada, Lopez, Gio (not that it would take much to show improvement form '18) and TA. Jimenez will join the lineup. We just have to see growth from the above players in the MLB, see growth form our top prospects in the minors, and avoid injury to our key players of the future.
  3. Is Mendick anything? Other than his name I have not heard much about him. Any chance he gets brought up this year and does something? Can he play OF since it's obvious Madrigal will be given 2nd base eventually.
  4. I would like to see this with starters 4/5. No need to use it for Rodon/Lopez/ Gio. We need to see what we have in them as regular starters to analyze our next steps.
  5. I don't get people booing Jay. Pretty immature. Boo him even when he hits a 2 run HR just bc we did not get Machado?
  6. Voted Jerry. In the end it's his money. I am sure if he had auth'd RH to throw Manny 10 @ 300 without all the stipulations and an opt out he likely would have signed with us.
  7. Stinks. For now I still believe in Dunning and Burger. Burger as a DH/1st def not at 3rd. Dunning I fear will need the surgery but I think he will come back just fine.
  8. Joc would be option 1 but no way we get him for nothing and I don't want Bush included. Let's roll w what we have
  9. https://www.rotoworld.com/baseball/mlb/player-news/headlines#news-8847656 According to Bob Nightengale of USA Today, the Padres' offer to Manny Machado is as high as $280 million over eight years. That's a nice increase over the over the $240 million that other clubs have reportedly offered. The Padres were also creative in the way they structured the contract for Eric Hosmer last offseason and could be looking to do something similar here. As of now, the Padres look to be in the lead in the race for Machado.
  10. LOL at 200 extra million not changing your life. You keep saying "if he does not spend the money it wont change his life". How do you know he wouldn't? He could think big picture and invest in businesses. He could have plans for it for his children, grandchildren, etc. Even if he is not the one spending it, it could give him piece of mind about his children which would change his life.
  11. https://www.prosportsdaily.com/articles/dominican-insider-reports-manny-machado-to-sign-with-white-sox--552848.html Dominican insider reports Manny Machado to sign with White Sox Sportsnaut | Feb 7 One of MLB’s free agents could soon be off the market. According to one person, the Chicago White Sox are close to signing Manny Machado. It started with Steve Paradzinski of TheLoopSports.com, who wrote that it was time for the White Sox to “finish the job” and sign Machado. Shortly thereafter, Hector Gomez, an editor at Z101, the largest station in the Dominican Republic, responded. Gomez noted that his source has said that Machado will soon sign with Chicago. The White Sox have been one of the teams tied to Machado through the offseason. Though, much like fellow superstar Bryce Harper, nothing has actually happened.
  12. Why do that when he's likely to sign with an opt out at year 3 or 4. He gets his guaranteed money without worrying about injury and if he gets hurt he's still collecting money. If he really wants to play for someone else he opts out and signs with them in a few years.
  13. or not landing him..... bc then they would still have verdugo and a crowded OF. IMO the best chance we have at landing Joc is if the Reds beat out the Dodgers and land Realmuto. I cant see the Dodgers getting him and not giving up Verdugo which would then make Joc useful to them.
  14. I just want to see improvement. If he can pitch at league average for a 5th starter I'd be happy with the progress. In 2020 I would expect huge improvement to fend off our upcoming pitchers or move on.
  15. None of these quotes change anything to me. What's he supposed to say? "If we don't get Machado we will have wasted money/players on our current acquisitions and our fan base will revolt!". That's just more fuel for MM's camp to ask for more money. He has to act like it will be all good if we don't sign him.
  16. Doubt that is an option. What good would it do to the Sox? Us leaking a lower offer is only going to make other teams who thought he was not affordable think that maybe he is and they could start reaching out.
  17. I am not. But I went against it in 2005. I had a white White Sox T-shirt. When we won our first play-off game I decided to wear it through the play-offs without washing it. It was so gross but I like to think iI was 50% of the reason we won.
  18. 4 years. Gives him a chance to opt out and get a new contract and/or bail if our rebuild did not work while he is still 30.
  19. Torn. On one hand I am bc if we were not under such a bad light we would not need to. On the other it shows were trying to land a big FA (and one that would actually be a great fit) which I have not seen in a while. In the end it is what it is.... I am just glad were trying.
  20. No one thinks he was a nice option. But he is a better option than Engel/L Garcia. What impact would this "gamble" of 4 mill have? If MM does not sign we continue with the rebuild and Jay is off the roster at season's end. If he gets us MM then we celebrate.
  21. Looks like Philly will be upping their offer to MM. http://rotoworld.com/headlines/mlb/595466/philly-to-up-manny-machado-offer-this-week?ls=roto:LA:topheadlines
  22. I hope this wraps up soon. Because if we land him we need to fill in some other areas. If you are going to spend that on MM then you might as well press for Dallas K, Ottavino, etc. Bc even w/ MM, until some of our young guys come up later, we still have a bad pitching staff and we need to improve the BP a little.
  23. While you may not care about marketability (I edited mine to that vs media as media was a poor choice) the White Sox do. Not that winning games wont help that... but winning games and having the face of baseball on your team means even more to a business. Regardless, MM is who I would prefer since he fits our needs more. We have no 3rd base prospects and plenty of OF. MM can come up big with the bat and glove.
