  1. The Sox are capable of going on a losing streak, because every team, no matter how good, has bad streaks. Seven game losing streak in August 2005. Then Ozzie was on an emotional collapse as the Indians got closer. Puking his guts out in the locker room. We will see how LaRussa handles it.
  2. The Twins are dead. Maybe they can throw at someone else who hits a home run against them. Great play by Vaughn on the 3-6-3 DP. This guy is a real contributor.
  3. A manager has the right to dress down a player for ignoring a sign if that really happened here. The rest was an overreaction. The Sox did take some regulars out by the end of the game. And the Twins should have had a real pitcher in there. Having some softball pitcher in there was absurd. Finally, I don't think hitting a home run is bad sportsmanship. In this case, it was a solo homer, not a grand slam. One run is not a slam dunk.
  4. I didn't like it when LaRussa was hired, either. Hero-worshippers kept pointing out to his "Hall of Fame" stats. I felt then, and I feel now, that his past performance didn't make him right for this team at this time. This fiasco proves that to be the case. This situation could have been handled in so many different ways. But getting pissed off at a player for hitting a home run is the dumbest thing I've seen. I enjoyed the home run. Isn't the game for the fans, too? I don't care what the score is, I don't want to see a hitter try to make an out. This isn't football when you're allowed to take a knee.
  5. This is what I thought. LaRussa sounded like he was managing the Twins and cared more their feelings than backing his own team. You can get angry at a player for missing a sign. But adding one more run in the ninth is not pouring it on. There was no point in taking a 3-0 pitch. Swing the bat and get the game over with one way or another. And tell the opposition to put a real pitcher out there.
  6. This was expressed beautifully. I really don't care how the Twins reacted to it. I enjoyed watching the Mercedes homer sail over the 411 mark.
  7. A lot of stuff gets said all over. I know it is difficult for a player or anyone to ignore criticism, but a player should do all he can to shut out this stuff. Being a major league baseball player is hard enough as it is to allow for distractions to affect play. I never thought that Moncada wasn't showing effort. His defensive play has been good even with some lack of communication with Anderson on pop ups. Fans say things. Announcers say things. The rest of the media also chimes in. None of it will mean anything if the Sox head into the playoffs.
  8. I don't understand why some fans are suddenly obsessed with Engel. He is a good defensive outfielder. He is a better hitter than Hamilton but that isn't saying much. In the long run, the Sox will need a lot more than Adam Engel.
  9. I hate when the Sox have to play a team with a losing streak like that, percentages being what they are. It is time to be concerned about Giolito. This is mid-May and he's still pitching like its spring training.
  10. Have to wonder about the Twins manager this series. He could have walked Abreu last night. Instead he pitched to him, and Jose got a two-run single. Today, he pitched around Vaughn thinking he would get left-handed hitting Collins next. That surely didn't happen. The Twins left a lot of runners on base today. They didn't look good this series so it's no wonder they lost all three.
  11. Hamilton played his ass off today. Center field defense is so important. One reason the Sox are winning is that the team is getting help from unexpected sources. Vaughn. Mercedes. Hamilton.
  12. Would never know that Lamb has been a good defensive first baseman. Footwork looked awful and he just appeared to be out of his element. Also hard to believe that Yoan and Tim almost muffed another pop up with a near collision.
  13. Three runs in two games. Sounds like the Cub offense. Indians are not going away. Looks like a two-team race in AL Central.
  14. Only in the sense that the White Sox need to asset themselves. If they really are the best team in the division, show it. They shouldn't let the Twins come into their home ball park and win two out of three. Won't be the end of the world, but that should not happen. Time to back up the pre-season hype.
  15. Well, Grandal is barely hitting over .100, and Giolito doesn't look like the 2020 Giolito. But, yes, it's hard not to feel good when you outscore your opponent 21-4 in a three-game series. Yet, this last game was weird. Very weird.
  16. Bummer looked devastating. Nice win although there is no way Grandal should be batting fifth.
  17. Run differential is important. I just think we need to look at the overall picture in this early point of the season. If the Sox are still playing well in September, it will follow that the RD will be good. The thing about this offense that bothers me some is that it runs up the score one day and goes flat the next. More consistency will only to lead to more wins and an excellent run differential.
  18. This stat is somewhat misleading. At times, the Sox offense erupts and they run up scores like this week against the Reds and KC. But then they lost to Cincy 1-0, and lost last Sunday to the Indians when their offense went silent again. Being in first is what really counts considering the injuries.
  19. In the past few years, KC has always given the Sox trouble even when they're bad. Beating the Royals and other division rivals is essential. You can't win the division if you don't.
  20. Starting pitching will help the Sox stay in things until Eloy and Robert return. Also helps that the division is weak. Can't let KC beat them like in past years.
  21. In reality, Reinsdorf can be very lucid. The LaRussa hiring is really no different than the Hawk hiring, the Ozzie hiring, the Ventura hiring. There appears to be little thought in the process even when these decisions are so important. He likes someone, he feels comfortable with someone, he hires that someone. The Ozzie thing worked out for a while until it blew up. The LaRussa, Hawk, and Ventura things not so well. I do worry as Reinsdorf ages that there is no one to counter-balance him. Somebody should have stopped the LaRussa thing, but there was no one around to do it.
  22. The White Sox can't be serious about this. Yes, Pujols adds nothing. This is something a cellar-dwelling team does in hopes of stirring some fan interest. Contending teams do other things.
  23. I only hope that this White Sox tradition doesn't continue. A move like this would truly mean the team isn't interested in winning.
  24. The rotation will help keep the Sox in contention in a crowded division until Eloy and Robert return. The problem we don't know when they will return and how they will perform when they do come back.
  25. LaRussa can't be blamed for the his offense not hitting, but he should have known the rule. In reality, Len, Jason, Frank and Ozzie should have known the rule also. Regardless, this is a symptom of other problems.
