Braves sign Morton: $15M/1 Year
one year, 15 million for that type of playoff production is a very good deal for the Braves.

The Blake Snell Thread
Interesting thought: What if you trade for a SP - Snell, Marquez, etc, and feature Vaughn...with the plan to Sign Springer, Colas and move Eloy to DH or First in 2022? Colas becomes LF of future, you have all-stars in Center and RF and you get Eloy the hell out of the OF. Is that possibly the best possible solution to future proof the team and get the #1 or #2 you absolutely need?

Offseason Targets
Darvish has been great since his injury issues. He had some some nagging stuff in '18 and beginning of '19. When healthy...he is elite, top 20ish every year. One thing to note with him. Like many near ace starters...he has one or two starts a year that are duds and totally ruin his numbers, but all the stat stuff that matters is above average every year.

Offseason Targets
I still wonder what it would take for Zac Gallen. Of all controlled starters he is the one that intrigues me most. I know It would be a ton...but he is a guy worth Kopech + imo.
-
Garrett Crochet
That workload sounds high. Will he be on like a 4-5 inning limit as a starter? I want him in the bullpen for playoffs for sure...but won't he be over 120 innings by then?

Sox claim Emilio Vargas
I would love that LaRussa thought highly of him from his DBack's days and had Katz look at some video to see if he found anything mechanics wise to fix and unlock potential...but they aren't that functional yet, right?

Offseason Targets
Buying a RF and LF in a mediocre outfield market...pass for me. I hope Darvish can happen though.

Offseason Targets
imagine wanting to trade a cornerstone of the rebuild and a perennial HR crown candidate...for not even the best pitcher on the Brewers staff. Woodruff or bust from the Brewers...even then I don't do Eloy for anyone, unless they are a top 10 pitcher in MLB with 3+ seasons of control.

MLB 2020-21 off season catch all
Could go after DJLM. Also...this probably guarantees they sign Realmuto...so springer should still be in play.

MLB 2020-21 off season catch all
Question...he doesn't get paid the 24 mil...but are the Mets still on the hook for the 24 mil to count against cap? I am not sure. The one positive about it is now they need to spend a bunch of money on a second baseman amongst other upgrades.

Theo Epstein Resigns; Hoyer Stays
I would definitely support 1 year/12-15 million for Bryant IF they don't reach a Springer deal. His upside compared to Pederson is better and he will be really motivated. He started showing life the last few weeks. I do worry about him getting injured playing RF a bit though. This also allows the Sox to sign Colas and give him a year to get acclimated/ready.

actually love that idea...Boras says Hell no.

Theo Epstein Resigns; Hoyer Stays
criteria for Jerry's replacement needs to be a billionaire...not a multiple hundred millionaire family that really doesn't have much cash outside of their company's worth.

2021 Hall of Fame Ballot
The Hall of Awesome and really, really good should open and Make Buehrle be their inaugural inductee

Theo Epstein Resigns; Hoyer Stays
yeah, Hahn is looking for president role next, not GM for another team.

Offseason Targets
No way it's light. It just shouldn't be an overpay. I think Cubs only do this if they can't trade Bryant or Schwarber though.

Braves sign Drew Smyly, 1 year $11 million
Braves are gonna Brave. ?Why? Why do this so early in the process for a guy that will surely be available late december/early january? Since they are my adopted NL team due to proximity (8 mins away), I am starting to understand why they never get over the top

Offseason Targets
Kopech for 2nd half of season and playoffs absolutely. Honestly both him and Crochet with their three digit fastballs are most desirable later in the season. This gives Cease a chance to turn it around to start the season under Katz and either cement himself in the rotation or be trade bait at deadline. One thing is clear though...Cease and Dunning will be on short ropes next season since we will have a new FA starter (or trade) and Kopech and Crochet will be waiting in the wings. good problem to have.

Offseason Targets
yeah, looks like a trade is going to be part of the equation if they keep PR tight. I get that...I just hope that Vaughn or Madrigal don't have to be an overpay to make it happen. I think if you need to go economical to get more pitching...Jackie Bradley Jr. isn't a bad play. I want springer, but need to have a backup plan.

Offseason Targets
Probably? You absolutely do that and enjoy the best outfield in baseball. And honestly it allows you to resign McCann and shuffle DH between Abreu, McCann and Eloy, which would keep them all fresh. I would HATE losing vaughn, but this is a no brainer type deal as with the money saved on OF you go hard after Bauer or 2 starters like Paxton/Kluber/Quintana.
-
Offseason Targets
If they are only willing to add 30 million in payroll this team is NOT serious about winning a world series and going for it. IF they can get Springer and a good starter that entire budget is gone. it's gotta be more realistic in the 35-45 mil range.

La Russa arrested for DUI in Feb; charged day before hire
I'm upset even more now that the sox knew that Jerry pulled some strings and avoided it for nearly two days before that lame half statement. they should have had a press statement ready the second that this whole thing came to light. Instead the media and fans blasted them for 2 days. This reeks of Jerry's arrogance.
