especially on around a 4/68 mil deal. trade rumors doesn't normally nail the team...but the numbers they guess are generally in the ballpark. I'm Bauer or bust, but just like Keuchel, this is a GREAT backup play.
-
Kluber doesn't need to do a prove it deal. This literally will be his last season pitching, unless he somehow miraculously can pitch 1 more season beyond. He is getting older and the injuries won't help his effectiveness. He is a much better version of the Gio deal the sox did last year..but I don't think his results are going to be much more than a #4. He is worth an 8-10 mil risk, probably more than paxton, but his old pitching coach is with the Yankees now. they probably swoop him
-
He was in schaumburg this year getting advanced work and the scouts all said at the draft that physically he is there, just needs the reps. My point is the 2nd round pick in the draft means nothing this year compared to signing a stud. it HAS to happen to be competitive for 21 in the least, but really 22 as well (unless they luck into Kopech and Cease being amazing)
-
Especially so since they drafted Crochet and Kelley last year...the former will push the starting role in 2022 and Kelley probably not too far after ('23?) Young pitching isn't the problem. This organization has plenty of that. It's hitting 21-22 with a top notch starter that has to be addressed before Kopech/Dunning/Cease/Crochet, etc, figure the 2022 and beyond group.

Zero chance Atlanta trades a young pitcher. They need help in starting just as much as the Sox do.
-
The amount of cheap 1 year starters is pretty staggering and that benefits sox if they can get a good bounce back. Of the whole list charlie Morton at 8 mil for one year is such a no brainer. Bauer to dodgers for 4 years would be devastating though for both the Sox, braves and Padres windows

Colome 1/6...in what world? Someone needs bullpen help surely... And I just don't see springer getting that much in a pandemic uncertain off-season...unless it's full of opt outs
-
I forgot about Hiura. Yelich had a .259 babip last season. I love targeting him. There would need to be a controlled position player though out of the deal. It would have to either be Vaughn, madrigal or another starter, plus cease to even get them to answer phone. So it never happens. Love targeting guys with big contracts on smaller budget teams. The one year that getting money off the books may result in a smaller return than normal.
-
I like the thought. Major bounce back candidate. Cease/Collins/Madrigal get it done? Or would you have to include Vaughn? I don't think I can stomach him, but that trio plus another young arm would be okay. Buying a 2nd base FA wouldn't be that hard and Yelich may be the one guy worth Madrigal.

Same. the ONLY part of this that may be acceptable is if JR says open up my checkbook mothafuckas. But when has he ever really said that? My biggest worry is that we have basically told FAs go to hell and we have a manager now that will take the current roster we have "and get the most out of them".

You may hate Dan Bernstein...but in his score op-ed he just nailed it: "The White Sox were so close to breaking through as a buoyant example of player-first sensibility and openness to all the newest and freshest ideas. The hiring of Tony La Russa, alas, has changed the game."

If you need me...I will be in a ditch off the side of the road...face down in a pile of vomit.

It's crazy to think the sox have 4-5 guys in their lineup that have that potential ability also. He was so fun to watch all postseason

Trevor Bauer Thread (Mazara Free Zone)

I don't see it as a 10 year dual role. I see it as 3-4 years guaranteed playing...and then option years if he decides to continue pitching, or it transfers to a coaching role full time. It would have to include opt-outs and a ton of creativity. Do I think this is outside the box...of course, is it likely to happen...No, it's not. But if any team WERE to offer something interesting like this (no one is offering pitch every 4 days), he would be swayed. His analytical side to me is honestly even more of a bonus than his pitching ability. He WILL be the best pitching coach in baseball when he retires from the game, so why not break the mold. Co-pitching coach is fine if you want to bring up someone from the system as well to handle in game coaching. -
Trevor Bauer Thread (Mazara Free Zone)

Wonder if Steve throwing this out there is publicly declaring Sox going after him aggressively. I still feel that offering him the starter/pitching coach hybrid role would sway him to join any team. Build out a plan and a framework for a few year deal, and it transitions to full time pitching coach upon career end. I doubt the sox would be willing to commit to that type of contract (still has years left of starting)...but any team that does will surely have an edge with him. -
yep, Yankees, Red Sox and Cubs all need to get under luxury tax. and with the new CBA looming it is going to be intense. Players will come off as greedy if they hold out for more money and Owners will all be crying poor. Perfect time to steal some FAs!

White Sox fan taunts Astros during ALCS

100%. Agents are going to have to get creative this year. It really is the year to try and grab talent before the CBA changes everything as well. Shopping this winter will be like how black friday USED to be. Springer on a normal offseason gets 6/120. This year I bet he gets 4/72 with an option and a 1 and 3 year opt out (1 year to hit new cba)
-
yeah, Mets getting new ownership absolutely killed the pipe dream of DeGrom. They will spend and honestly be up against FAs the Sox are pursuing. Scherzer is an interesting idea actually. He only has one year left...is not the ace he once was by Age...but still could be a great playoff piece. He is owed 27.3 mil salary & 7.1 signing bonus defer. If Sox strike out on Bauer and Stroman - honestly trading for him without paying any of the future deferral 7yrs/105mil could be a smart move. Gives Sox a win now experienced WS and playoff master, as well as first rights to sign him for another season or two if things go well at a manageable price (since the dude makes 15 mil/season til 2028). The question is how much would the Nationals want for him? It would take at least Dunning back plus 2 prospects. But I think this actually is a smart way to hit balls to the wall next season and still let the 2-4 young 2022 SP candidates sort themselves out.

IMO the TLR play was orchestrated brilliantly. Get the fan base confused, angry, talking about a 76 year old guy to deflect off the fact that they already have a deal in place with Hinch or a complete dark horse here that nobody is mentioning and everyone will be cool with. To move a polarizing figure like Hinch into the PR refresh he needs...throw another polarizing figure as an option for everyone to loudly oppose. Step 1 of recovery clears a hurdle. Plus, it makes Jerry feel like he helped a friend. If Kenny or RH orchestrated this...BRAVO. I tend to think PR people had to come up with this idea though, it's too smart.

Bob sounds worse on radio then his tweets do. How does this guy still have a job?

FutureSox feature on pitching injuries
EloyJenkins replied to southsider2k5's topic in Pale Hose Talk
great recap of everything. Lambert is basically out now going forward with emergence of Crochet, unless he switches over to bullpen. Hopefully Stiever can find some more velocity back next season, still like his potential. the 4 & 5 starter spots the next two years will be very interesting to see as the expectations of the team rise. -
The NEXT White Sox Manager Thread Poll

yeah man. I saw that it had like 20 responses...and quickly ignored. READING COMPREHENSION MOFOs!!! -
oh totally agree. In my ideal it's: Start of season Giolito, #2 Bauer/Stroman/Trade, Keuchel, Cease, Dunning June Giolito, #2, Keuchel, Cease, Kopech or Dunning (We have to see Kopech get a longer look) Playoffs Giolito, #2, Keuchel, Kopech, Cease or Dunning (Kopech gets a playoff start if he holds up and Cease and Dunning both can be bullpen/long guys if needed I don't see how Reylo fits into any of this. Especially if Crochet is a 2 inning type guy/longer relief guy for 2021 and is starter for 2022. Reylo as a high impact bullpen replacement sounds about the only option if they keep him. Would rather trade.
