  1. If you can get Hendriks for 3 years...you gotta go for that. But some really smart team will prioritize Yates for 2 years and get better value out of the deal, even if Hendriks is better. I really like the idea of a splitter coming up after facing Crochet/Bummer. That would be a devastating switch up. This season will also be much easier to pick up relief options at the deadline if teams are still bleeding from ticket revenue (they will be).
  2. I am all about Kirby Yates now after doing some research on bone spur recovery. He may not be as dominant this season, but he should be very good...and if everything is clean he could be worth a 2 year deal. Seeing his age (34), he is a great bridge until all the sox young guys figure out the pecking order. If you can snag a better 5th starter - Paxton or Kluber, I would rather pursue Yates than Hendricks if 4 years is required.
  3. The latest from trade rumors today has the Dodgers as a suitor. Waited too long. If you are going to be aggressive...be aggressive. Now the Mets and Phillies both have GMs and need a closer. I will hold out hope...but an overpay was fine...now it will be a mega overpay with the agent having much more leverage.
  4. mad respect for them doing this. getting rid of the wahoo was the biggest thing, but glad to see this. I would like them to go with something that still respects a local or historical tribe...but I bet they tie into the rock n roll hall of fame some how.
  5. Keuchel and Lynn will be off the books in 2023 (assuming Lynn extension). They will still have years of Kopech/Crochet left and one of Kelley/Dahlquist/Thompson should be forcing themselves into the rotation by 2023/24, so they will have cost control options also. Cease is the guy you let walk, even if he figures it out. Plus, all the money from the back to back titles should pay for the contract...
  6. 2/40 is perfect for Lynn. At his age his open market value will be lower than others and I bet he will take less to win a championship/stick with this winning team. I think Hahn could even say 3/50 and we will rip up this years 9mil deal and that would work. IMO you HAVE to lock him up to justify the Dunning cost and "Window open" years
  7. Plot twist...We are all Rick Hahn and this is a simulation in MLB the show 2035. They added the new fandom lunacy feature.
  8. 1 yr, 8-10 mil. Coming off injury really hurts him, but fits Sox perfectly because of Kopech looming and needing an innings split. Maybe someone dumb like Angels offer 10-12 mil and an option, but I just don't see it.
  9. Hendriks AND Bauer because of the Eaton savings...?
  10. go Kluber instead of Q. Will probably be cheaper, has more upside...and if Cease and Kopech both look awesome...you can actually trade Klobot to a desperate contender for a piece or hold him for the playoffs and manage his and Kopech's innings.
  11. this is totally fair and accurate. you have to see if Collins can cut it this year. if he can't they make a move at the deadline this year. The trade deadline this year is going to be nuts with cash strapped teams.
  12. This. 100%. He is gonna be a 240/320 guy with 15hr/50 rbis as a starter. He WILL wear down. We saw it in 2019. I am happy for him and loved we squeezed the absolute best out of him. But it is time to move on.
  13. I miss the old Deadspin.
  14. if Mets do McCann and Bauer, they may not go aggressive on him. what teams would realistically be left on Springer?
  15. Anyone see this??: https://www.mlb.com/news/george-springer-free-agency-case-for-white-sox I love the idea of moving Eloy to DH, but there is no way that JR buys Eaton AND Springer...but the idea here to delay Vaughn a season and let Eaton walk after next year and put Springer in RF and Eloy back to LF when Vaughn is ready is interesting no doubt.
  16. get an extra year by bringing him up in June, have him/eloy/abreu round robin DH and let Eloy play the field 2-3 games a week. Get's Engel some playing time and maybe justifies bringing in Dahl to see if he rebounds. I am not sure TLR would handle that kind of juggling though. Seems like a lot to figure out.
  17. and prices Brantley or any other good lefty out of their "budget"
  18. In nearly every game thread last year, it was fear, worry and b****ing in the 9th inning and then relief. Sign Hendriks and that goes away. Will it be an overpay...of course. FA relievers are the always overpaid...but if the money is going to be spent...get the best available. With the in-house options and Hendriks added this team becomes stronger.
  19. do you ever have a positive take on anything?
  20. If you told me before this all went down...you will get A. Springer and a cheap Starter (project or Gio type) B. Bauer and almost nothing other than a really cheap RF, or C. Lynn, Eaton, Hendricks and potentially Brantley for DH... I think it starts to look like a better plan. I dislike the Eaton deal because I think he could have been had cheaper, but 4 players compared to 2 could work and fills in the holes
  21. If the window is open...stop window shopping at dollar general.
  22. I'm not mad. I'm just confused. Why sign this now when he could have been cheaper later on FA? Unless this is to save money for a big Starter, I just don't get it. As a player he is fine. As an organization move, it's just kindy icky
  23. Agreed 100% on those other pitching deals. Dunning was really the ONLY expendable pitcher with value since Katz is adamant about keeping Cease (Which means they see something major). Kopech and Vaugn should be untouchable, except for Woodruff, DeGrom or maybe Gallen. This trade becomes a slam dunk if they sign Bauer...but, yeah, not gonna happen.
  24. Lynn will pitch 200 innings, Dunning will pitch 130. I don't buy WAR being that close.
  25. LOVE the idea of rework his deal for this year. 3/45-50 is perfect. Also still allows for another starter signing and gives you a strong 3 year window with everyone on board, while still allowing the future to get it figured out (Crochet, Dalquist, Kelley).
