  1. QUOTE(StrangeSox @ Aug 27, 2006 -> 09:48 AM) I agree completely, that was my point. I was responding to the "they wouldn't have won with anyone but Ozzie" comment. Oh, OK, gotcha. Although I would argue that they would not have won with Jerry Manuel in charge. But that's a different discussion....
  2. QUOTE(shawnhillegas @ Aug 27, 2006 -> 09:35 AM) JD does, but hes the only one It does appear that when the Sox crush a mistake, 99.9% of the time it's a fastball.
  3. Glad you had a great time despite the early troubles, Plod!
  4. QUOTE(StrangeSox @ Aug 27, 2006 -> 09:35 AM) You give Joe Torre, Leyland, Gardenhire, etc. the success of the White Sox pitching staff last year and they win, easly. The pitching this year has been far from great. Part of that is Oz's fault because he routinely leaves his pitchers in too long and misuses the bullpen. Another part is playing a different lineup every day and not putting the best defense out onto the field. You can say that about any manager. Give them the recent failings of Contreras, Buerhle and Vasquez and would they win easily? Let's review: Leyland (despite his Florida WS victory) has an overall losing record with every team he's managed before Detroit. Torre didn't win anything anywhere outside of the Bronx. Gardenhire has won divisions, but hasn't led a team into the World Series. Good teams make good managers in general, not only in Ozzie's case.
  5. QUOTE(LowerCaseRepublican @ Aug 27, 2006 -> 09:12 AM) Weird short arms, eh? More like a T-Rex than a Rhino. Rhino is kinda like Sabu. He needs to not talk. Give him a mouthpiece or a manager because he is terrible on the stick. And TNA, would it be too much to ask to not have J-A-Double F J-A-Double R-E-Double T *shiny tooth "ding!"* not be NWA champ? He's already booked himself four title reigns already and he is not entertaining as a heel. Samoa Joe for champion. Samoa Joe is freedom. Yes. Triple J, as I like to call him, needs to de-push himself. I think TNA might be worried about rushing Joe to the strap. His promos get kind of repetitive, IMO, and once he has to drop the strap a couple times, maybe his invincible aura is gone and people would see him as just another rassler. I like Joe, but I'm not a nutswinger. I see some limitations in him, but TNA needs to have someone else run with the belt for awhile, whether it's Joe, Monty Brown or whoever. JNJ (Just Not Jarrett)
  6. Very strong promo by Christian. If he were only taller and roided up, Vince would NEVER have let him leave.... Rhino is awful on the mic, too short to be a HOSS and he has those weird short arms.
  7. QUOTE(greg775 @ Aug 26, 2006 -> 11:24 PM) Good point about the Braves always finding a way into the playoffs. One year will be disappointing if we don't get back in. But it's understandable the way our pitching has gone to s***. But the other side to that is that Braves fans got so spoiled that they stopped filling the park for first-round playoff games. And they s*** on Braves management for "only" winning one World Series in the 14 years that they made the postseason every year. My point is that it's unrealistic to expect a team to get to the World Series in consecutive years, and while I hope like hell that the Sox get there, I haven't expected it at any time.
  8. QUOTE(diegotony06 @ Aug 27, 2006 -> 01:04 AM) Anybody whoever played baseball knows that defense wins games. Ozzie is a F*****G idiot. Why would you start a guy in centerfield, who is a corner outfielder, who said he isn't comfortable in center. I'll tell you why, Cause Ozzie is an a*****e, that's why. He wants everyone to think he is smarter than he actually is. Let me tell you all something. I am drunk right now, but last year, we could have had F*****G Bevington manage this team and we would have won the world series. We caught every break, and Guillien didn't have to make any decisioins because all our starter went 9 innings. He acts like he made so many decisions, he didn't do S**t. He sat there and watched oue pitchers pitch complete game after complete game. We won in spite of him. This year we will lose because of him. Ozzie is a complete moron. here is what I would have done, and I don't care if anyone agrees with me. I would have had mackowiak in left leading off. Iguchi batting second playing 2nd base. Dye batting 3rd in right. Konerko hitting DH 4th. Gload at first 5th. Crede at third batting 6th. Uribe at short hitting 7th. Andersonin center batting 8th and AJ catching batting ninth. You wanna know hy, cause it gives Santana a differnt look. The guy loves when you stack a lineup with nothing but right handed hitters. Ozzie is the reason we lost the game yesterday and today!! All of the people who love OZZIE are dumb. I would rather have Jim Leyland managing this team. Ozzie is a complete moron who doesn't know anything about managing a baseball team. Let him go back to velenzuela and sell F*****g oil with Hugo F*****G Chavez. He's stupid and don't know what he is doing when it comes to managing a big league club. KW is another idiot for hiring him. KW was a terrible player, what does he know about Managing a club. Bring back Ron Schueler. I know people are gonna say, OH but we won a World series. BIG F******G DEAL. With the talent we had we should have won more that just one. Like I said earlier, a blind man could have led us to a WORLD SERIES last year, we got every break, that;s why we won. Tjis year we won't win S**t because of our manager. He is a complete idiot, and we are gonna go from a team that won the world series to a team that finishes in 3rd place. What a disgrace. OZZIE has got to go. I just don't understand why you start Mackowiak in center. I'll tell you why!!! OZZIE is a F*****G stupid F**K. That's why. He shouldn't be managing a F*****G Dairy Queen let alone a Major league team. He is a joke and the whole SOX orginization is a joke. We go from winning a WORLD SERIES to not even making the playoffs. Can anyone say CUBBIES!!! What a pleasant addition to our little community.
  9. Last year's team was projected by many to finish 4th and won the World Series. This year's team was projected by many to repeat and may well finish out of the playoffs. That's baseball. It's unpredictable by nature. So many variables go into a season like the one the Sox had last year. Health, luck, "bounces going your way", managerial decisions working out, momentum, and other intangibles all merge together, almost by magic. Expecting a team to win the World Series is the easiest and fastest way to be disappointed. Having the most talent or the "best players" almost never guarantees anything in baseball. I feel that Reinsdorf and Williams gave Ozzie enough good players to be competitive, and they ARE competitve. Whether or not that's enough to get to the postseason, well, "that's why they play the 162 ballgames". And FWIW, I'm still just grateful that I'm not going to die without seeing my team win it all, and that's still enough for me right now. Real fans can be negative, and should demand a quality product, but I'm not going to be TOO down on this team until I see them stop trying to field a competitive squad.
  10. QUOTE(DrunkBomber @ Aug 25, 2006 -> 01:48 PM) At least they didnt bring up mullett night. or Disco Demolition. or Elvis Night. or Rat Pack Night.
  11. QUOTE(Kid Gleason @ Aug 25, 2006 -> 11:38 PM) Tapes may have sounded better at times, but I bought so many faulty tapes, and they went to crud so dang fast, I was more than happy to push that medium off the ledge and watch it go "splat". Oh, I know, tapes weren't the answer as it turned out, but at the time I was glad to just have some alternative to skipping, popping and crackling vinyl. Nowadays I believe the sound quality of a CD is completely up to the band, producer and label. Depends on how much time and money they want to put into the production. I've heard small-label discs that sound very "big", and a lot of crappy recordings that sound tinny or distant.
  12. QUOTE(Kid Gleason @ Aug 26, 2006 -> 12:20 AM) Critic, I didn't know you had Towers Of London. I'm still on the fence with them I want to like them, but there is just something about them I am not too keen on. Kind of like a modern KISS where they just miss having great riffs. I only have like three tracks that I found randomly on the Net. And I agree with you - they're good, but they just miss being great. All the pieces are there, they just don't quite fit the way I'd like. Still like them enough to keep them on the pod.
  13. QUOTE(whitesoxfan101 @ Aug 25, 2006 -> 09:25 PM) I've never seen one even close, by anybody that managed us. And I remember the entire Terry Bevington era. Bevy once signalled to the bullpen for a reliever who wasn't there. It's going to take a lot more than that last inning to eclipse that.
  14. QUOTE(CYGarland @ Aug 25, 2006 -> 09:10 PM) Thank god for that. This is the game right here, If Riske gives up a hr here............. You were saying?
  15. QUOTE(cgaudin @ Aug 25, 2006 -> 09:07 PM) If Cotts gives up anything, I will pass my own kidneys. He gave up a single. Good luck with that.
  16. Yeah, bad news for the WWE. Their most versatile worker has to leave. That's a shame, but it really is best for him to take a break, at least. I was afraid (and still kind of am afraid) that he wouldn't quit until he rolled away in a wheelchair.
  17. I think I'm opting out of my season ticket group after this season. I'd rather go to 4 or 5 games a year with both my wife and daughter than go to 10 games with either one or the other. Plus, since there are 9 guys in our group, I'm most likely getting one playoff game maximum (I drew #4, so if they get to the ALCS I'm probably in.)
  18. Oh, come on, Tex, you just KNOW Mike copied that from some blog somewhere!!!
  19. Manufactured controversy on a reality show???? GET OUTTA HERE!!!!!!
  20. See, I hated the way vinyl sounded. Let's put it this way - I was happy to buy CASSETTES because I thought they sounded better! I was all about STOPPING THE POPPING!
  21. QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Aug 25, 2006 -> 06:04 PM) A typical critic you are, hating on the good movies like super troopers while you watch BrokeBack mountain for the 20th time. And THIS after I almost complimented you on being the only person who makes sense in game threads..... And FWIW, I never have and never will watch Brokeback Mountain - not because of the gay deal, because it's a chick flick.
  22. I've seen this done on other boards, don't remember if we've done it here or not. List the first 10 songs that come up on "shuffle". Here are mine: Boston - It's Easy Social Distortion - Through These Eyes The Riverboat Gamblers - Slug Tigertailz - Creeping Death (Metallica cover) Land Of The El Caminos - Knee Deep Nirvana - Territorial Pissings AC/DC - Dirty Deeds Done Dirt Cheap Therapy? - Loose Towers Of London - On A Noose The Almighty - Mondo Balordo
  23. I hated Super Troopers, so I'm going to pass on this.
  24. Best of luck in Cali, LMB!! Don't you vanish from the board and go to angelstalk.com or some s***.
  25. QUOTE(LowerCaseRepublican @ Aug 21, 2006 -> 10:37 PM) Anybody want to explain the last 15 mins. of Raw to me? A heel turning heel again, Vince yelling randomly and nearly crying and the Hardcore Icon smooching the keester of the damned senile, incest-angle pushing sports entertainment moron before crying and kicking a car in some very poor acting fashion. I tried to make sense of it or how it was even entertaining in the most liberal sense of the word. I'm sure there's a very good reason for all of that................no, wait - I'm not sure of that at all. I AM sure that Vince likes to have his ass kissed by adult men, and that Foley will do absolutely anything for "the business". I'm also sure that this DX angle is going nowhere. Awful, awful, beyond awful. What a clusterf***.
