Santo awaits call from Vet Committee
The Critic replied to Texsox's topic in Alex’s Olde Tyme Sports Pub
Typical of him to play the "I'm Dying" card. "I'm not saying that not getting in would kill me, but I have a heart problem and this stress CAN'T be good for me - I'm dying and I'd rather get in while I'm alive....I mean, I'm not dying tomorrow, but make no mistake, I AM dying, and maybe soon. So if you guys don't vote me in soon, it might be too late.....not that I'm dying tomorrow or anything.....but I could.....cuz of my heart and the stress of not being in the Hall Of Fame.....indirectly.....but still......" Ugh. What an imbecile. -

QUOTE(3E8 @ Mar 1, 2005 -> 09:45 AM) Journey?! Yes, the Steve Perry-driven Journey, who wrote "cigarette lighter ballads" like Faithfully and Open Arms, the band that my little sister made me ill from on a regular basis in high school. In my eyes, they are every bit the same as John Tesh, Yanni or Kenny G.

Where was the Kenny G/John Tesh war when we needed it? Or the Air Supply/Journey war? ...and so on and so on....

http://www.cnn.com/2005/US/03/01/station.s...g.ap/index.html That station needs a metal detector or something - second shooting to happen there involving rappers.

As was mentioned before, I watch ESPN for highlights and breaking news. I like listening to the opinions of the BBTN guys, but I don't put their opinions before anyone else's. It's comedy as much as anything else. Most analysts are just reactionary or front-running anyway. It's very rare that any of them will accurately pick a sleeper team.

QUOTE(DonkeyKongerko @ Feb 28, 2005 -> 11:51 AM) I guess it's hard to notice a good middle reliever. All he does is shut the opposition down in a late inning while the SPs and closers get all the glory. I still didn't like Marte in save situations in 2004, I hope he bounces back to '02-'03 form this year. I know they're trying to get them noticed with the "hold" category, but that stat just doesn't have the juice that a save has. A hold in most other sports is a penalty or foul, but in baseball it's supposed to be GOOD all of a sudden????

QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Feb 28, 2005 -> 08:21 AM) And as for me personally, I would like to say an extra thanks to Jim Bullard, Jeff Bajenaru, and Brandon McCarthy. I have had personal dealings with all 3, and they have always been willing to talk to me, and do anything to help the site. You 3 are the best! Are you sure that having to deal with you wasn't part of some community service arrangement or something??? I can't see anyone doing that voluntarily....

I believe that game is on AM 1000. I cannot WAIT!! Bring it on!!!!!!

Oh, and back on topic, Magglio really sounds like a jilted girlfriend right now. His comments are the verbal equivalent of driving past your ex's house at night trying to see if there's a strange car in the driveway. It's a sad ending to a very odd story. It really is too bad that things ended this way - Maggs deserves to be remembered more fondly by Sox fans, but he just wouldn't allow that to happen.

QUOTE(backman @ Feb 28, 2005 -> 06:34 AM) or at least out loud they think their team is the best, no one will say our team is worse off, at the beginning of the season Yeah, I'm glad you clarified that point, cuz I can't imagine any of the Devil Rays actually believing that they have the best team in their division. In fact, if I were a Devil Ray, I couldn't even say out loud that "anything can happen in this crazy game". That's gotta suck, going into camp KNOWING that there's no way in hell you're gonna make the playoffs.

QUOTE(Nokona @ Feb 27, 2005 -> 09:26 PM) I'm changing my name then. "Nokona Molina"....catchy.....

QUOTE(Whitesox029 @ Feb 27, 2005 -> 09:37 PM) First post! WSI veteran here. I just thought I'd double my fun and join up at soxtalk. Might even get into a political scrum here and there for a change. GO !!! Welcome from one "double agent" to another! Just in case you weren't aware, green here = teal there. We don't even have a teal option here. Oh, and we can f***ing curse any goddamned time we motherf***ing feel like it! SO.......enjoy the cursing and political/religious debates!

QUOTE(YASNY @ Feb 27, 2005 -> 09:20 PM) There is no curse. Except maybe "cursed with bad management" for all these years.....

QUOTE(DonkeyKongerko @ Feb 27, 2005 -> 08:48 PM) Second, do you actually like the name of our field? Would you have thought Ravech was disrespecting Oakland if he made fun of Network Associates/McAfee Coliseum or San Diego and PetCo Park? I actually think our stadium now has the worst name in baseball along with Minute Maid Park. It doesn't roll of the tongue and it sounds just so blatantly corporate. US Cellular Field certainly has better flow AND sounds less corporate than Network Associates/McAfee Coliseum. They may as well have named that park Corporate Corporation Field, Incorporated - couldn't sound much worse than NetAssMac Coliseum. And I NEVER anyone use that cheap "is that what they call it now?" wisecrack about any other park that changed its name. I didn't even hear it when Enron collapsed and that park became Minute Maid. They just started with the juice box remarks, but none of the "whatever it's called these days" crap that they throw at USCF. It's a minor point, for sure, but I think it bears mentioning. I don't mind the park's name at all - personally, I say the full name or USCF, but a lot of people use The Cell, which would be a cool enough nickname if those jackasses hadn't run on the field and given "The Cell" a bad connotation.

QUOTE(Leonard Zelig @ Feb 27, 2005 -> 10:52 AM) I was about to break it off with this girl I had been seeing a little, not serious at all, when one of her friends calls me and tells me she's in the hospital with a brain tumor. I still did it, but I felt a lot worse about it. Can't blame ya, man....get-well cards are expensive!

QUOTE(Jeckle2000 @ Feb 27, 2005 -> 08:19 AM) I wouldn't mind seeing pictures of the hot women you work with. I don't have any pictures, but I must say that my company has some truly spectacular women working there. Model-hot, for sure.

For the Babe, .288 - 22 - 84 = "diminished skills" How many steals did he have?
-
Add me to the list of guys who'd like a copy ( either VHS or DVD, I don't care which ) of that final game.
-
Some guys at my job do this about the women at work - I tell them that's an easy way to get in a s***load of trouble with HR, but they keep going with it....oh well....

The last time I got dumped ( about 110 years ago ), the girl told me that I didn't take anything seriously - "Everything's a joke to you!!!!" ....come on, now, that doesn't sound like me.....does it? ....heh....

QUOTE(3E8 @ Feb 26, 2005 -> 11:31 PM) omg wtf mash upz HAHAHAHA! I agree!!! The mash-up is the most overdone idea in music currently. A couple years ago it was the ironic/comedic cover song ( example: Smooth Criminal ), now it's the mashup. I am SO tired of them....

One major advantage to the NY-Boston rivalry is the proximity of the two cities. They've always stayed in the same division, so they are guaranteed to meet a bunch of times every year. The Sox have switched divisions a couple times, to the West when MLB expanded to a divisional format, then to the Central, so their rivalry teams have changed. They'll have to find a new rivalry again in a few years, when Minny gets contracted.... Both rivalries are pretty intense, for sure, but since I dislike both the Spankees and the Red Cubs, I'll take the Sox-Twinks rivalry any day.
