QUOTE(DonkeyKongerko @ Mar 2, 2005 -> 06:35 PM) To whomever was defending the name of our ballpark in that other thread, I hope you're happy now. I predict Joan Cusack will be the next manager of the USC White Sox. I'm no less happy. What's in a name, seriously? Almost nobody calls it US Cellular Field anyway, everyone I know except me calls it The Cell or Comiskey. This corporate gobbledygook means nothing to me. I still don't find the stadium name to be that bad at all, I still don't own a cell phone ( my wife has one, but I refuse ) and I still fail to see how anyone can say that Joan Cusack is attractive. I look at her and I see the Joker.

QUOTE(WilliamTell @ Mar 2, 2005 -> 01:11 PM) Have they ever wondered if Wrigley Field's the reason for their jinx? They would NEVER blame the weed-covered money machine for their woes. Goats are stinky and ugly, meddling fans are replaceable, baseballs are a dime a dozen, but THE SHRINE IS CASH IN THE BANK!!!!! -
QUOTE(kapkomet @ Mar 2, 2005 -> 02:05 PM) LMAO. I saw the LAA on the schedule, and I thought, WTF? Then I remembered that whole stupid ass name change. But I'll be here the three days before watching some baseball. I can't wait. I got my tickets before the name change thing was "sort of" decided, so it says: Chicago White Sox vs. Angels No city, no nothing....just "Angels"....

QUOTE(mreye @ Mar 2, 2005 -> 10:15 AM) So did Dish Network. Now, about Steve Stone. I agree. I'd like to see him in the booth. But, why in the world would we want him as GM? Didn't we try that booth to Gm thing before with much failure? No thanks. I think he'd make a great Manager someday, but not a GM. I'd give him a shot at GM. He'd be great as a manager, I think, but he doesn't want to do that. Maybe I'm over-rating him, but I've always thought he has a good baseball mind, understands the way the business of baseball works, and I think he'd surround himself with good baseball people to help him out. But first and foremost, I think a Hawk/Stone broadcast would be golden. I think they'd be funny and informative.

Gonzales sounds cool, judging from that interview. I hope they don't poison his mind over there.

My Dad always used the much more expressive "It's colder than a witch's tit in a brass bra". I miss that dude.

QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Mar 2, 2005 -> 08:03 AM) I finally got done reading this gem of a thread. I have one question, and people don't have to answer it. But was anyone who replied in this thread anything other than a teenage to 20's white male? (besides Soxy and Noam of course ) Well, the guy who started the thread is in his early "senile's".... ....although technically, starting the thread isn't replying to it.......see what I mean about senile?

Santo awaits call from Vet Committee

QUOTE(YASNY @ Mar 2, 2005 -> 03:07 AM) For the sake of discussion, which 3rd Basemen since about 1960 were as good as or better than Santo? Here's a few. Mike Schmidt. Head and shoulders better than Santo. Harmon Killebrew. As a slugger he's better. Not the rest of his game though. Brooks Robinson. To me, Santo compares to this guy. Brooksie was better with the glove, but honestly, not by much. Santo was a damn good defensive 3B. Santo had a slightly better stick, so I think the offensive and defennsive advantages each had balance out. Robinson was the AL AS 3B every year, and Santo held the NL slot most years. Brooks got more national attention due the O's occasionally making the post season and WS. If he was better than Santo, it's a slight difference, in my opinion. Anyone else that fits with these guys that I'm not thinking of? Wasn't Schmidt later than Santo's prime? I think so, but my long-term memory's shot - old age sucks.... I think the Brooks Robinson comparison is the most important one, since Brooks was considered the best 3B of the era ( at least after his aforementioned WS heroics, the lack of which hurts Santo the most IMO ). I agree that Santo measures up very well with Robinson's numbers in almost every category, and is better than Brooks in some of them, so on that basis there's no denying that Santo deserves the nod. ....it's still more fun for him not to get in, though..... -
QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Mar 2, 2005 -> 12:44 AM) I bet she got a whole hell of a lot of money. On ESPN, Roger Cossack's "educated guess" ( their term ) was 5 million bucks. He said that she probably started out asking for 20, but his guess is they settled at 5 mil. The settlement supposedly includes a "shut up" clause ( my term ), which means no book, no Oprah, no 20/20, etc. If that's true, it's money well-spent for Kobe to keep that girl off TV.

QUOTE(ChiSoxyGirl @ Mar 1, 2005 -> 08:27 PM) Let's not fight about this--let instead consider the words of the immortal Ludacris: Can't turn a ho into a housewife/Hos don't act right. "NEW PUSSY CAN'T COOK!!!!" Chris Rock, "Bring The Pain" I have been waiting patiently for a reason to quote that line!

QUOTE(Goldmember @ Mar 1, 2005 -> 02:58 PM) completely agree. hope they catch the scum that did this. also really hope it wasn't an enemy the judge made through her job because that has the possibility of really get to her emotionally... Unfortunately, I'd bet a LOT of money that it's a follower of Hale. The irony is, if I read this correctly, that she originally ruled in Hale's favor until the decision was reversed in appeals, and she had to rule against him as a result. My heart goes out to her - to lose her husband and mother so violently has got to be more devastating than I can ever imagine.

QUOTE(WilliamTell @ Mar 1, 2005 -> 03:34 PM) Sadly yes. What kind of Parody is this in baseball? The Braves have won like 13 in a row, the Yankees like 9 in a row, and the Twins have won 3 in a row. ...but the AL West is UP FOR GRABS!!!

QUOTE(DonkeyKongerko @ Mar 1, 2005 -> 02:17 PM) I agree and so would many of you others here if he wasn't a Cub. Make no mistake - I voted "yes" because he was a good enough ballplayer. But I don't WANT him to get in because (1) he's a whiner and a tool about it and (2) it's MUCH funnier every year when he's left out. BLOW UP THE FAKE LEGS, BOIL THE LEG SHRAPNEL IN BEER, PUT THE PROSTHESIS JUICE IN SPAGHETTI SAUCE AND HE'S IN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! -
Going up to Milwaukee on Saturday, September 3rd. Brewers taking on the San Diego Padres. It is Carlos Lee bobblehead night. Everyone entering the park gets one. Something like 95% of them are depicted in the home uniform, 5% in road uni's. If your bobble has the SUPER SPECIAL marking on it, you take it to the Customer Service desk to exchange it for one that Carlos has autographed. All for the low low price of $10 bleacher seats - HELL YES. 3 bobbles coming home with us that night.

QUOTE(MurcieOne @ Mar 1, 2005 -> 10:45 AM) while i agree with you that he's a complete imbecile... I do think he deserves to get it in... True, his numbers compare favorably to the 3B of his era. Playing alongside other HOF players on a team that never won hurt his chances. But now I want to see him denied, because he's become such a whiny, begging sack about it, and I don't think it sends a good message to children that whining gets you what you want..... -

QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Mar 1, 2005 -> 09:52 AM) We have done that for pick up games at the Y for as long as I can remember. It works just fine. In MYYYYY DAYYYYYYY, we'd officiate our pickup games every time. You made the calls correctly, because you didn't want to get jobbed later in the game. Of course, there'd always be that one little b**** who "got fouled" on every play, or was never thrown out at a base EVER, but that stuff got over-ruled by the rest of us. Like 2k5 said, worked just fine for us.
