I'm sorry that I made a post that you didn't understand. I'm sorry that I was "peddling an idea" by typing "With a 2 run lead you make the defensive sub. You dont manage scared." That was the only time I used the phrase or mentioned it. I also apologize that you somehow you can't figure out the logic behind; playing for the last three outs and not 3 potential outs that don't exist at the moment is not managing scared, but playing for 3 outs that only happen if you blow a lead is managing scared.
-
I'm arguing a manager who gets the most out of his team is in fact good at his job; even if you don't like his strategic decisions that have very little statistical impact on the team or the outcomes.
-
When you have a two run lead, and it's the 9th inning, your job is to get 3 outs. That's the only job you have left to do. Putting on the field the best unit to do that, is not managing scared. It's optimizing a lineup. Leaving a fielder in the game because you're scared you're going to give up the lead and might need his bat is managing scared. Putting a fielder into the game to maximize your chance to get the last three outs is managing smart. I honestly have never heard anyone in the game call a pinch runner or fielding sub managing scared. This is a first for me.

Rescue Ricky? Get a grip on yourself guy. Can I address a thread without you spewing your ignorant nonsense in rebuttal? Again, there are people in this thread defending the decision. I am not one of them. If you have a problem with them, go discuss it with them. Run along now.
-
No, leaving a batter in the game because you "might give up the lead and 2 runs in the 9th" is scared. Optimizing your defense at the risk of a bat that shouldn't come up in the 9th is managing to finish the game. How would playing for one more half inning be managing scared?
-
Ned. Yost. Won. A. Title. Please stop saying championship caliber manager. A manager's ability to get the most of his players is 10000% more valuable than any pitching decision or outfield swap.
-
There are actually people in this thread saying leaving Eloy out there was the right decision; I have said it was wrong and you don't manage scared and you're saying I'm defending the move. Instead of being an obsessive weirdo - obsessed with me an ricky apparently - maybe try giving the actual posts a read before responding.
-
Defend? Maybe try reading again there champ; I know that's hard for some. What's hilarious is people like you and the obsessive negativity and expert syndrome; where you know what the best decision is always despite sitting on your couch watching the game.

For everyone obsessing over how "smart" Stone is and how dumb Renteria is, give this a read: Then give this a read: I've already analyzed on this very forum why catcher ERA is a broken way to be critical of Grandal; for one, Grandal has been on the better end of the split most of his career - this year and last year are outliers - and McCann has been around his teams ERA most of his career. McCann may know some of these pitchers better right now since he's been here for a year+, but saying McCann is the best catcher in Chicago is a joke and I don't need to listen to anyone tell me Stone is right on everything any longer.

what this season has taught me is that sox fans will b**** and complain all day no matter what. Teams great? Well I could make it better! Teams bad? What else do you expect!?! To constantly attack the manager of a team over performing this much is just hilarious.
-
Another decision that likely has very little to do with the manager.

Roache unless your name is ichiro, you're not hitting the ball where you want to
-
With a 2 run lead you make the defensive sub. You dont manage scared.
-
No I don't think anyone is trying to hit the ball on purpose to the LF. Come on Roche.

Not pulling eloy was for sure a mistake. It happens. This thread though, and the countless rick bash threads are hilarious. Sox are in first place with he best run differential in the AL and 2nd best record in baseball. They were projected to be a .500 team. The players have praised renteria constantly - yet sox fans want to tell you how bad he's been every day. Its hilarious. And atone has praised renteria and his overall job this year, it just doesn't fit the narrative here so its been ignored.

Sox should consider throwing Buxton less pitches to hit than more. Been on a heck of a tear since he came back. -

all of it sounds good but for the maddening game threads; these threads drive my blood pressure through the rough. You'd think it was 2016 in most of them. my wife usually goes to the room and comes out for 1 or two innings to say how long the games are then retreats back into the room; only to continually ask is that it? then comes to watch the last inning lol. -

He's been owned by sliders in his career, but true curve's he has been positive almost his entire career. This year he's + vs the Curve but negative vs the slider. I guess it's hard to say what to classify Berrios off-speed as, but the slower one I'd guess McCann has been crushing. -

It's 24 at bats; I don't put much into that. Unless you think McCann also destroys and own Gerrit Cole who he has a 1275 OPS against in 12 at bats? edit: I'll add 24 at bats is approaching a number I'd consider viable so you have an argument. -
Cleveland is the worst offensive baseball team in the league.

Cease is 2017 Giolito and 2018 Reynaldo Lopez. Phantom success; if change isn't made, he'll be Lopez, if growth continues he can become Giolito. If change is delayed, they might not be as patient as they were with Gilito. I tend to think Cease will figure it out; I think much of his demise is related to his inability to throw the ball anywhere near where he wants it. He throws way too many non-competitive pitches, and people know he can't throw consistent strikes. It's hard to get swings and misses, and for your stuff to play up, when you're never around the zone. You're constantly behind in the count, and even then your fastballs are either in the zone or completely non-competitive.

Sox playoff chances sit at 100%, 3rd in AL for WS odds

Its also misleading because Detroit and KC are literally over .500 on the season when they don't play the White Sox. Theyre 2-18 combined vs the Sox. They're 38-36 against everyone else. The narrative of "beating good teams" has always been absurd in baseball given the way the game matches up and runs in spurts. The twins got swept by KC and Detroit. Sox have dominated. Period eos. -
Rodon move to the 45 was just procedural I thought. Hes already been out 45 days. If he's ready to come back next week he will. Not sure how true that is.
-
Say what? They've had to use like 12 starters this year. This would also mean they're done spending money at all anywhwre but the bullpen because they have every position locked up cost controlled.

I'd be willing to wager the Astros finish above .500 but it's all a moot point.
